Summer time and that means great fun. Some may go to the beach while others take a vacation trip abroad. In any event, we

2、hope you all would have had a good summer this year. The economy continues to improve with lower unemployment rates and better job prospects for this years graduates. Our new CE apparently has settled into his post well and Mickey Mouse will soon welcome us to his Hong Kong castle. The stock market

3、seems to be on a rebound to a high not seen since the IT boom and the real estate market is holding steady as well, notwithstanding quite a few windows in older buildings seem to be failing and falling down at the same time. Regionally, there have been ceremonies marking VJ (Victory over Japan) Day

4、that occurred 60 years ago in August 1945. Globally, interest rates are rising gradually and George W Bush is contemplating fighting Iraqs next door neighbor Iran, and then Katrina struck New Orleans. Welcome! tTo the fifthfirst quarterly issue of our institutes newsletter and at the time of writing

5、 this up, the overall economy of Hong Kong has shown signs of recovery in terms of consumer spending, stock prices, and housing price indexes. The Closer Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with the Mainland has taken effect, along with continued but cautioned economic vibrancy in the USA. A few c

6、onfirmed or suspected SARS cases were also reported in the Mainland. Facility managers take note!and as the name suggests, we hope it would serve as a communication Quite an interesting past few months, with public discussions, debates, or even challenges among and from the public on various real es

7、tate related issues ranging from the culturally themed public-private-participation project, via an aborted (perhaps temporarily) REIT IPO, to the demolition (decidedly aborted) of certain former government-built but never occupied residential towers. Globally, a tsunami hit the coastal areas in SE

8、Asia on Boxing Day causing tens of thousands of deaths in a matter of hours (or even minutes for some) and George Bush got sworn in for a second term. tool not only between the institute and its members, but ideally between the institute and the public at large as well. 10、ent Mr. Kenneth ChanFrankie So 5.6.The Presidents DiaryOn 16 March 2005, I attend the Award presentation Ceremony of Design Competition of Lighting Fittings for Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL) organized by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. I

11、admired the creativity of students in designing the innovative use of compact fluorescent lamps in common lighting in the home and office.On 22 March 2005, I represented the Institute in attending the reception and Annual Dinner of Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers. I had the opport

12、unity to meet old acquaintances and new friends. We hope to have closer co-operation with CIBSE in the promotion of best practices in maintenance management of services.On 24 March 2005, Dr Daniel HO and I attended a lunch with Mr. Alex LAM and Tim VENABLE, Program Director/ Location Strategy and Ed

13、itor of Corporate Real Estate Leader. Possible education cooperation was touched upon. We would also like to translate some of their articles related to FM for publication in our forthcoming PFM.The Strategic Facility Management in China (當(dāng)代策略性設(shè)施管理) Shanghai Seminar was successfully opened and concl

14、uded on 25 May 2005 at Shanghai JW Marriott (Tomorrow Square) with over 120 attended. The speeches and arrangement of the seminar was highly praised by almost all attendees. International Round Table on FMOn the following day, there was the International Round Table on FM, attended by IFMA, IFMA HK,

15、 CCIM, BCCPM, CoreNet, RICS, HKIFM. It was interesting to note the comments by our Honorary Fellow Mr. Yu Qingxin about the necessity to commission a in-depth research on FM in China. It was generally agreed that Property Management should be the basis out of which FM was to grow. It would involve a

16、dding value and bringing PM into new/ modern/ visionary perspective. More collaboration amongst the interested/ concerned groups was called for. This was no one organizations business.Tsinghua Yinda Property Management Forum 2005 Technical and Environmental Management in the Sustainable Property Man

I was glad that some are interested in my presentation about the development of FM. I consider this was also a successful forum for practitioners to learn new concepts and share ideas and e

18、xperience. The morning sessions involved keynote speeches and experts presentation. The afternoon was for four concurrent education and experience sharing by way of research presentations. There were a total of 32 papers. The main bulk of papers were practical issues. Very few were on tactical and s

19、trategic issues.On 8 June 2005, I represented HKIFM in attending the Dinner at the Races hosted by the Secretary for Housing, Planning and Lands.Property and Facility Management An EpochOn 30 July 2005, I represented HKIFM in signing the Memorandum of Intent with PolyU, RICS, HKIS, ISCM and HKIH. Th

21、ghai Ya Sheng Real Estate Consultancy Limited (上海亞晟房地產(chǎn)投資諮詢有限公司) on possible provision of training courses by HKIFM to managers of the 2010 Expo in Shanghai especially on Exhibition Management. He was also majority shareholder of a company formed with the organizing committee of 2010 Expo called Shan

22、ghai Boa Zhan Human Resources Development Limited (上海博展人力資源發(fā)展有限公司). I will follow this up when we meet in Shanghai during the PSDAS Conference to be held on 25 May 2005.On 24 March 2005, Dr Daniel HO and I attended a lunch with Mr Alex LAM, Hon.PFM and Mr Tim VENABLE, Programme Director/ Location St

23、rategy and Editor of Corporate Real Estate Leader (CREL). Possible education cooperation was touched upon. It was agreed during the brief meeting that articles related to FM from CREL could be made available for translation into Chinese for publication in our planned issues of PROFESSIONAL FACILITY

24、MANAGEMENT.7. We are planning for the supporting organizations of the Shanghai Seminar to come together for an International FM Roundtable on 26 May 2005 to discuss possible cooperation in the promotion of advancement of facility management services in the Mainland.8.9.10. 55、elative good conditions despite there is no formal maintenance for them. 63 years ago, the Japanese Imperial Army invaded Hong Kong, which held out for 17 days before capitulating, thus starting the famous 3 year & 8 month long occupation. The 12th CIBW70 Symposium was held on 7-8 December 2004

58、South China Morning Post on 19 November 2004.  The Hong Kong Knowledge Management Society had organized its 6th Asia Pacific KM Conference on 18-19 November 2004 in Hong Kong with concentration on Knowledge Societies in Asia Pacific Region. The HKIFM PSDAS conference titled 'Where can FM add more?', jointly organized with IFMA (Hong Kong Chapter), was successfully held on 24 November, 2004 (Wednesday). Participants consisted of many professionals, practitioners, and academics from the field. We had had a very good AGM and dinner late last year
