1、Adapter for windshield wiper armsFIELD OF THE INVENTIONThe present invention relates to an adapter used to couple a wiper arm to a wiperblade, and more particularly, to an adapter capable of accommodating a variety ofwiper arm types known as the hook, bayonet and pin type wiper arms, and even thedif
2、ferent size hook-and pin type wiper arms. Further, an adapter of the presentinvention has vertical wings with protrusions formed at outer surfaces thereof so asto thereby reduce a friction caused between the adapter and the adapteraccommodating portion of the wiper blade.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONK
3、orean Utility Laid Open No. 91-7131 discloses an adapter for vehicle wipersupports, which is described with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2 as follows. Anadapter( 110) has a bayonet type wiper arm(B) accommodation portion formed by acover with a coupling hole114 forinsertion of a protrusion1 formed at th
4、e bayonet type arm(B) and aninsertion hole112; a hook type wiper arm(H) accommodation portionformed by a first stopper126 and a second stopper 128 protruded froman inner upper surface and an inner front surface of a vertical wing 122; and a pintype wiper arm(P) stopper recess132 formed behind apivot
5、 insertion groove134 formed at the bottom surface of theadapter.However, the above-described adapter has disadvantages in terms of productionand purchase of products since the adapter is not capable of accommodatingdifferent size hook type arms. Further, frictions are caused between the inner wall o
6、fan adapter accommodation portion 142 of a wiper blade140 and the outer wall ofthe vertical wing ofthe adapter prevent smooth operation.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONTherefore, it is an object of the present invention to provide an adapter which iscapable of accommodating a hook type, a bayonet type, and
7、a pin type wiper arm,respectively. It is another object of the present invention to provide an adapter whichis capable of accommodating different size hook type wiper arms. It is still anotherobject of the present invention to provide an adapter with a vertical wing capable ofreducing frictions betw
8、een the adapter and a wiper blade.When the adapter with such improvements is used, an incorporation of the wiperblade in combination with the arm is obtained through the adapter, and a smoothpower transmission is achieved, to thereby improve the wiping performance of thewiper and at the same time le

12、Now, the present invention will be explained in more detail with reference to theattached drawings. Throughout the drawings and specifications, identical elementsbear identical reference numerals and the description thereof will be omitted.Referring to FIGS. 3A to3D, an arm adapter 10 for a wiper bl
13、adeaccording to an embodiment of the present invention includes at a bottom surfacethereof a pivot insertion groove34 to be coupled to awiper blade 40 through a pivot44, and a pin stopper recess32 for apin type wiper arm(P); a hook type wiper arm(H) accommodation portion 21 formedby an inner front s
14、urface and an upper surface surrounded by vertical wings 22with a first stopper26 and a second stopper 27protruded, with a predetermined spacing, from the front inner side walls of verticalwings; and a bayonet type wiper arm(B) accommodation portion 11 formed, at a rearinner surface of the arm adapt
15、er, by an inclined accommodation opening12and a cover 15having a coupling hole14 penetrated at the center of the cover. Theadapter 10 with the pin stopper recess32, the hook type wiper armaccommodation portion 21 and the bayonet type wiper arm accommodation portion11 which are formed integrally with
16、 the adapter, is assembled into an adapterinsertion opening42 of the wiper blade40, and awiper arm as a power transmission body is coupled to the assembly.The pin stopper recess of the pin type wiper arm(P) has pin accommodation grooves32a and 32b formed at both sides centering from the pivot insert
17、ion groove. Thevertical wings22 have at inner wallsthereof a plurality of upper and lower embossings24a and 24b, andthe first stopper 26 has a front inclined surface27a and a rearstopper 27b formed integrally with each other, and the second stopper 28 is shapedas an inverse wedge, so as to thereby f
18、orm the hook type wiper arm accommodationportion 21. The vertical wings22 have atouter surfaces thereof a plurality of C-shaped protrusions 52.An arm adapter 10 according to another embodiment of the present inventionincludes a pin type wiper arm having front and rear pin accommodation grooves 32aan
19、d 32b with different size so as to thereby accommodate different diameterpins(8).An arm adapter 10 according to still another embodiment of the present inventionincludes a hook type wiper arm accommodation portion which is capable ofaccommodating different size hook type wiper arms H 1 and H 2 throu
20、gh a firstprotruded piece35a and a secondprotruded piece 36. The first protruded piece35a is protrudeddownwardly from a sidewall of the pivot insertion groove34 and has atriangle groove 35b formed in the front portion of the firstprotruded piece. The second protruded piece 36 is protrudeddownwardly
21、from a sidewall of the rear pin stopper grooveAn arm adapter 10 according to further still another embodiment of the presentinvention includes a pin type wiper arm having different size front and rear pinaccommodation grooves32a and 32b so as toaccommodate different size pins8.The adapter of the pre
22、sent invention operates as follows.Referring to FIGS. 2B,4A and 6A, the case where the hook type wiperarm H1 having a relatively narrower spacing and width between an upper line portion3 and a lower line portion4 with a curvature 5interposed between the upper line portion and the lower line portion
23、is connected tothe wiper blade40, will be explained. In such cases,the hook type wiper arm H 1 is inserted into the hook type wiper arm accommodationportion. That is, the curvature5 of the arm H 1 slidesthrough the front inclined surface27a of the first stopper, towardinside of a stopper27b when pus
24、hed from the front of the adapter.Subsequently, when the upper line portion3 of the arm H 1 is presseddownwardly and thus the upper embossing 24a of the vertical wing is pushedsideways, the front portion of the vertical wing is widened due to the elasticity and thewiper arm H1 contacts the upper sur
25、faceof the adapter. At this time, an end of the lower line portion4 ofthe arm H 1 is inserted into the triangle groove35b of the firstprotruded piece 35a, the inner side surface of the lower line portion 4 of the arm H 1contacts the lower surface of the inverse wedgeshaped second stopper 28, and the
26、outer side surface of the lower line portion contacts the upper surface of the lowerembossing24b.Subsequently, the arm H 1 is accommodated into the adapter insertion opening 42 ofthe wiper blade40, and a pivot insertion hole45 ofthe blade and the pivot insertion groove34 are connected through thepiv
27、ot 44, as shown in FIG.6A. When the windshield wiper is inoperation, the arm H 1 may not escape from the space formed among the firststopper26, the stopper 27b and the second stopper 28. The armH1 is elastically supported by the upper embossing24a, and fixed bythe lower surface of the second stopper
28、28 and the upper surface ofthe lower embossing 24b, a stabilized operation of the wiper without vibration can beobtained. As a consequence, an improved transmission of the power is achievedwhile lengthening useful life of the product as a whole.Referring to FIGS. 2B,4B and 6A, the case where the hoo
29、k type wiperarm H2 having a relatively larger spacing and width between an upper line portion3 and a lower line portion4 with the erposed between the upper line portion and the lower line portion is connected tothe wiper blade40, will be explained. When the armH2 is pushed backward
30、at the curvature5, the lower line portion4contacts the lower embossing24b, thereby expanding vertical wings.Then, the arm H 2 slides toward inside of the stopper27b through theinclined surface27a of the first stopper26. Subsequently, when theupper line portion 3 of the arm H 2 is pressed downwardly,
31、 the upper embossing 24aof the vertical wing22 is pushed and contacts theupper surface of the adapter. At this time, an upper surface of an end of the lower lineportion4 of the arm H 2 contacts the first andsecond protruded pieces 35aand 36, respectively, the slot6 formedat the arm H 2 is coupled to
32、 the first protruded pieces35, and theinner side surface contacts the front arc of the second stopper28,to thereby achieve a firm fixation of the arm H2. Then, the arm iscoupled to the wiper blade in the same manner as for the arm H1discussed above. While the windshield wiper is in operation, the ar
33、m H2 may notescape from the space formed among the first stopper 26, the stopper 27b and thesecond stopper 28, and is pressedly supported by the upper and lower embossings24a and 24b, a stabilized operationof the wiper without vibration can be obtained.Referring to FIGS. 2A and 5, the case where the
34、 bayonet type wiper arm(B) isconnected to the wiper40 will be described. In this case,the wiper arm(B) is inserted to the bayonet type wiper arm(B) accommodationportion 11. That is, when the front portion of the arm(B) is pushed from behind theaccommodation opening12, thecoupling hole 14 perforated
35、at the center of the cover15 of theadapter 10 is coupled to the protrusion1 of the arm(B), to therebyfix the arm(B). The arm(B) is coupled to the wiper blade in the same manner as forarms H 1 and H 2 discussed above.Referring to FIGS. 2C,6A and 6B, the case where the pin type wiperarm(P) is connected to the wiper40 will be described. As shown inFIG. 6A, the adapter10 is accommodated into the adapter insertionopening 42 of the wiper blade40, and the pivot insertion hole45 ofthe blade and the pivot insertio
