Some people even put up stockings for their pets as well. 有些人甚至也為他們的寵物掛上襪子。 as well 意為“也”,多用于口語(yǔ)中,用法與 too 完全一樣,通常放在句末使用,但不必與主句分開(kāi),加逗號(hào)。 e.g. He sent me a letter and some money as well. 他給我寄來(lái)一封信,還有一些錢(qián)。 Li Ye is not only good at s

Even though Father Christmas is no longer living , his spirit of generosity lives on today. 盡管圣誕老人不復(fù)存在,但今天慷慨大方的精神依然長(zhǎng)存。 (1)even though 意為“即使”之意,大多置于句首,引導(dǎo)讓步狀語(yǔ)從句。在英語(yǔ)句子中,用 even though , 就不用 but,而在中文句子兩者不可缺少。 e.g. Even though I fail Ill keep on trying. 盡管我失敗了,但我仍堅(jiān)持嘗試。 Even though

12、 he is ninety , he looks strong and healthy. 盡管他九十歲了,但他看上去健康又強(qiáng)壯。 (2)no longer = not any longer. 意為“不再”之意。 e.g. He no longer lives here . = He doesnt live here any longer. 他不再住在這里了。 My daughter can finish the work by herself , because she is no longer a child. 我女兒能獨(dú)自完成這項(xiàng)工作,因?yàn)樗巡辉偈且粋€(gè)小孩子了。 注意:no longer

13、 多與延續(xù)性動(dòng)詞連用,指與過(guò)去比而不再,經(jīng)常用于現(xiàn)在時(shí)態(tài)中,在句子中位于行為動(dòng)詞之前,be 動(dòng)詞的后面。 no more = not any more. 經(jīng)常與瞬間動(dòng)詞連用,表示今后不再,經(jīng)常用于將來(lái)時(shí),過(guò)去時(shí)態(tài)中。 (3)live on 意為“繼續(xù)活著”,on 表示“繼續(xù)”之意。 e.g. Mozart is dead but his music lives on. 莫扎特死了,但他的音樂(lè)還活在人們心中。 Do you know the spirit of Lei Feng will live on ? 你知道雷鋒精神會(huì)繼續(xù)傳下去嗎? Our intelligence is partly given us at birth , and no amount of special education can make a genius out of a child born with low intelligence . On the other hand , a child who lives in an uninteresting environm

Thus the limits of a persons intelligence are fixed at birth , but whether or not he reaches those limits will depend on his enviornment . The closer the blood relationship between two people , the most closer they are likely to be in intelligence . Thus if we take two unrelated people at random from the population , it is likely that their deg

Relations like brothers and sisters , parents and children , usually have similar intelligence , and this clearly suggests that intellige

44、nce depends on birth. Imagine now that we take two identical twins and put them in different environments . We might send one for example , to a university and the other to a factory where the work is tiring and uninteresting . We would soon find differences in intelligence developing , and this sho

45、ws that enviornment as well as birth plays a part. This conclusion is also suggested by the fact that people who live in close connection with each other , but who are not related at all , are likely to have similar degrees of intelligence. 1.
