Packaging can be

3、described as a coordinated system of preparing goods for transportation ,warehousing ,logistics,sale and end use.This includes packaging,containers, protection, preservation, transportation, information and sales. It is fully integrated into government , business,institutional, industry and personal

4、 use.Text8. 1 Functions of Packaging The various functions of Packaging are divided into primary, secondary and tertiary functions. In contrast with the peimary functions, which primarily concern the technical nature of the packaging, secondary functions relate to communications and and teriary func

5、tions relate to the extent.8.1.1Protective Function The packaging products protect the contents packed into them from outside elements.In addition, packaging must also reliably be able to withstand the many dofferent static and dynamic forces to which it is subjected during transport ,handling and s

6、torage operations.Text 8.1.2Storage Function The packaging materials and packaging containers must be stored in many different locations both before packaging of the goods and once the package contents have been used. Packaging must thus also fulfill a storage function.8.1.3Loading and Transport Fun

7、ction Convenient goods handling entails designing transport packaging in such a manner that it may be held ,lifted ,moved, set down and stowed easily ,efficiently anf safely. Packaging thus has a crucial impact on the efficiency of transport ,handling and storage of goods.Packaging should therefore

8、be designed to be easily handled and to permit space-saving storage and stowage.Text 8.1.4 Sales Function The purpose of the sales function of a package is to enable or promote the sales process and to make it more efficient.8.1.5 Promotional Function Promotional material placed on the packaging is

9、intended to attract the potential purchasers attention and to have a positive impact upon the purchasing decision .Promotional material on packaging plays a partcularly important role sales packaging as it is directly addressed to the consumer .This function is of subordinate significance in transop

10、t packaging.Text8.1.6 Service Function The various items of information printed on packaging provide the consumer with details about the contents and use of the particular product .Th package may also perform a further function once the contents have been used.8.1.7 Guarantee Function By supplying a

11、n undamaged and unblemished package, the manufacturer guarantees that the details on the packaging correspond to the contents .The packaging is therefore the basis for branded goods ,consumer protection and product liability.8.1.8 Additional Function The additional function in particular relates to

12、the extent to which the packaging materials or packaging containers may be reused once the package contents have been used .The most significant example is the recycling of paper ,paperboard and packaging cardboard as waste paper.Text 8.2 Types of Packaging Protecting goods is very important.Food, e

13、lectronics, clothes,furniture and other consumer goods all come in packaging meant to protect them during transportation and storage.There are different types of packaging solutions and materials.8.2.1 Paper and Carton Packaging Paper and carton packaging is used for different types of goods(food,el

14、ectronics,toys, shoes, kitchenware and even other packaging materials).Paper and carton packaging companies produce wrapping paper, inflated paper ,sheets ,boxes ,tubes ,pallets,interlayers,corners,edge and custom protective systems.8.2.2 Film Packaging There are multiple types of films used in the

15、packaging industry, most commonly polyethyene (PE), polypropylene(PP), polyolefin and polyvinyl choride (PVC)films .The films usually come on a roll and are used to wrap goods ,cover goods ,protect boxes and make other packaging products.Text 8.2.3 Foam Packaging Foam used for packaging can be produ

16、ced on a roll or in sheets of different thicknesses .The foam is used to wrap goods or make bags ,corners,edges and custom systems. The corners and edges are used to protect flat glass ,furniture and sharp edges.Foam can be cut and modeled on the products shape to fix and protect it.8.2.4 Textile Pa

17、ckaging There are some goods that are best protected by textiles.For example ,there are custom-made textile insertions used in the automotive industry to protect car parts during transportation.The textile insert is put on a metal frame that fits into a matal container.There is also textile material

18、 used for box covers.8.2.5 Plastic Boxes and Containers Multiple types of plastics boxes and containers are used in all industries .For example,in the food industry there are plastics containers for goods like milk and juices.Plastic boxes are mainly used for transporting goods and are reusable .The

19、y can be stacked,folded when empty to save storage space.Text 8.2.6 Packaging Systems Packaging companies offer different types of systems that can be divided into two categories:special soltions and packaging machines.The special solutions are used for valuable products that dont have a regular ,si

20、mple shape .Packaging machines are used for wrapping ,strapping, sealing and shrink wrapping .8.2.7 Other Types Adhesive tapes are also considered packaging materials, as they help seal boxes.They are uaually made out of PE or PP film that can be printed on .Straping tapes are ueually applied on box
