2、sueanacademiccareernotonpurelypracticalreasons,butratheronmyownnaturalinterestsandaptitude.Mypersonalphilosophyisthatmoneyandsocialstatusshouldnotbepursuedaslifeconsumingobjectivesandthatinactualitytheyarethebyproductsofgoalsoriginatingfromonesinnerneeds.Iunderstandthatmyintellectualcapacityisagift,
3、andIintendtousethisgifttotheverybestofmysubstantialcapabilities.IaminterestedinthefieldofstudyofOrganizationalBehavior.Inthepast,Ihavehadtheexperieneeofworkinginsettingswherethepeopleandthecorporateculturesofthecompanieswerealldifferent.Ihavefoundthatthereisagreatdiffereneeintheboththebehaviorsofpeo
4、pleandoftheirorganizations,dependingonwhethertheyarestateownedenterprises(SOEs,largemultinationalfirms,actingwithoutdirectinstructionsisconsideredaformofdisrespecttowardsthesupervisor,whoisgenerallyoffendedbysuchbehavior.Inmyexperieneeandresearch,suchorganizationstendtohavelowoperatingefficiencywith
5、theemployeeslosingtheirinnateabilitytotaketheinitiative.Incontrast,foreignenterprisestendtowelcomeemployeeswhohavetheabilitytomakedecisionsontheirown,thoughtheextenttowhichthisistruedependsonwhetherthesupervisorisalocalChineseoranexpatriate.Theseorganizationshavecomparativelyhigheroperatingefficienc
6、yandemployeesenjoygreaterjobsatisfaction.MyresearchandobservationshaveshownmethatonlyasmallfractionofChineseemployeesarewelladaptedtotheworkingmethodsoftheforeignenterprises.Manyareaccustomedtomerelyhavingothersmakethedecisionsforthemandarenotexperieneedattakingonsomereasonableresponsibilities.Whata
7、ccountsforthedifferentbehaviorsofthesepeopleandtheirorganizations?Myobservationsandpersonalexperieneehavegreatlyarousedmyinterestinstudyingthissubject.Iaminterestedindeterminingthespecificfactorsthatdeterminethedifferentbehaviorsofemployeesandhowtheyworktogethertoformthebehavioroftheorganization,asw
8、ellasfindingwaystomodifysuchbehaviorstomakeforamorehealthyandproperlyfunctioningorganization.InallofthevariousfieldsthatIhaveworkedin,suchasinternationaltrade,marketingandofficeadministration,Ihavefoundthatthemostimportantfactorinsuccessfulbusinessesliesinhowthebusinessisabletoexploititsresourcestom
9、eettheneedsofitstargetmarkets.Humanresourcesultimatelymakepossiblethefullutilizationoftheotherresources,organizationalbehaviorisnowbeingdeterminedbytheparticipationofmorepeoplethroughouttheorganizationratherthanjustafewseniorlevelmanagers.Iwouldverymuchliketostudythesetrendswhatexactlyaretherolestha
10、temployeesandemployersplayinmodernorganizations?Whatimpactdothesechangesinorganizationalbehaviorshaveonthesocialandeconomicdevelopmentofcountries?InChina,therearecurrentlynooutstandingprofessorsinthefieldoforganizationalbehavior.TextbooksaretranslatedfromotherIanguagesratherthansentryintotheWorldTra
11、deOrganization,therewillbetremendouschangesandchallengesinorganizationalstructures.Thesechangesmustbestudiedandthoroughlyresearchedsothatsuccessfulpracticescanbeidentified.ModelscanthenbedevelopedtoguidefutureOrganizationalBehaviorpracticesinChina.OneofmygoalsistowriteTHEauthoritativetextbookonOrgan
12、izationalBehaviorinChina.,inthefieldofOrganizationBehavior,duetoavarietyoffactors.IntheUnitedStates,researchinthesocialscienceshasnotprogressedasquicklyasresearchintothenaturalsciencesandeconomicdevelopment.Igrewupinanenvironmentwheretherewasonlyonerightanswertothequestion,andthatwasdictatedtousbyth
13、eteacherorthegovernment.Peoplewerenotencouragedtoquestionthewaythingswere,andoftenwouldhavetopayapriceforthinkingoractingdifferently.Ofcourse,practiceshavebeenchangingwiththeopeninguppolicyandgovernmentalandeconomicreforms.ButtheopportunityforoverseasstudyintheUnitedStateswillnotonlyprovideabetterre
14、searchandstudyenvironmentbutalsotherarechaneetoseetheworldandChinathroughadifferentparadigm.Mypastworkandeducationalexperieneehasgivenmemanyopportunitiesforresearchforvariousprojects.InmyMBAorogram,allofmycoursesrequiredwrittenpapersandpresentations,InotonlylearnedtheIanguagebutthecultureandlogicbeh
15、indtheIanguageitself.Thisunderstandinghashelpedmetouniockthesometimesobscuremeaningsinwrittenworktogetattheessenceofthedataandhowitappliestomyparticularcase.,Iwillaspiretograspandthoroughlyunderstandresearchmethodologytolayasolidfoundationforconductingseriousacademicresearch.Secondly,Iwillcompleteth
16、ebasiccoursesinorganizationalbehaviorandrelatedfieldswhileconductingsomeelementaryresearch.Third,IwillstudythepresenttheoriesandpracticesinthefieldwhileobservingthedevelopmentoforganizationalbehaviorinChina.Finally,IwillthoroughlyresearchorganizationalbehaviorinChinaandtrytocontributeinnovativetheor
17、iesleadingtoeffectivepractices.,(overtheobjectionsofmygrandfather)insistedthatmyfathergotoschoolratherthantoworkinthefields.Sincethen,hehascontinuouslystudiedtheagriculturalfieldforyearsandwrotethefirsteverlawsandregulationsinChinaregulatingtheagriculturaleconomywhilesimultaneouslyearningtherespectandappreciationofhighlevelgovernmentofficialsintheministry.Myfatherhasalwaysencouragedmetoachieveandexcel,eventhoughasafemaleinChinasuchapursuitisusuallydiscouraged,ifnotimpossible.Hiswilltosurviveagainstalloddsandhisneverendingpursuitofeducation
