All things considered, its more helpful for us to understand the researches that have been done on Atonement from the following four aspects, namely thematic study, the

16、oretical study, stylistic study and artistic study.Thematic study refers to those studies with respect to different subjects, creative motives and topics in a novel. Atonement is defined by Elke DHoker (2006) as a literary confessional fiction which is distinct from the religious confession and he i

Scholars at home started the preliminary studies on Ian McEwan himself and Atonement in the late 1990s and then pervasive researches on his literary creation were carried out increasingly. Apart from the conventional thematic

20、exploration, Chinese scholars expound elaborately on many other research orientations with multiple critical approaches to literature for the more detailed studies. The studies on Atonement at home can be divided into the following four aspects:First is the overall introduction and summarization to
