Currently,thetrendofvideo-centricplatformsismanifestingitselfinthedevelopmentofcamera-firstecosystemswithdedicateddeviceoperatingsystems.Thesealsocenteraroundcamerasasmultiusesensorswith“software-defined”capabilitiesbeingofferedviaapplicationdevelopers.Thisisn’tnew,butthe“appification”ofcamerasviaappstoremodelsthatofferlessfrictionthanpreviousecosystemsisadevelopmenttowatch.Competingecosystemshavearangeof“openness.”Someofferarangeofhardwareandsoftwareappsfromthirdparties,someonlyoffersoftwarefromthirdparties,andsomeoffereverythingfromasinglevendor.TotakethisconceptintotherealmoftrueIoTecosystems,itischallengingtoseehowasinglevendorcouldofferafullrangeofIoTdevices,thusadegreeof“openness”islikelyrequiredtoachieveadominantglobalvideo-centricIoTplatform:Avideo-centricIoTplatformwhichcanaggregatedatafromsurveillancecamerasandarangeofdifferentsensorsinordertoserveawiderrangeofapplications“beyondsecurity.”
