Bylookingatawiderangeofobservationsfromallovertheworld,theMetOfficestudyconcludesthatthefingerprintofhumaninfluenceonclimateisstrongerthanever.Plentyoftheseclimateeffectshadalreadybeenobservedatthetimeofthe2023IPCCreport,includingwarmingtemperatures,shiftsinrainfall(wetregionsgettingwetter,dryregionsgettingdrier)andtheincreaseinsummermeltbackofArcticseaice.Thosepatternshavecontinued,andinsomecasesgottenworse.Someentirelynewobservationshavebeenrecordedaswell.Inits2023report,theIPCCdidnotincludetheimpactofGreenlandsorAntarcticasmeltingglaciersinitsestimateoffuturesealevelrise,sayingitlackedsufficientdata.Butnowthespeedupofflowfromtheseglaciershasbeendocumented.AndwhiletheIPCCnotedin2023thateverycontinenthadwarmedthroughoutthe20thcenturyexceptAntarctica,thatcontinenthasnowbeenshowntobewarmingaswell―verylikelyduetomanmadeinfluences,saysaclimatescientist.
