大地上發(fā)生了沙塵暴:沙塵暴，又稱黑風(fēng)暴，是發(fā)生在沙漠地區(qū)的'一種自然現(xiàn)象。沙漠地區(qū)的大量流沙，是沙塵暴的沙源，春季的大風(fēng)是沙塵暴的憑借力氣。

河水正在渾濁：水俁鎮(zhèn)由于工業(yè)發(fā)展排放工業(yè)廢水，有一批稀里糊涂的病人，病人起先時(shí)口齒不清，表情呆滯，后來發(fā)展為全身麻木，精神失常，最終狂叫而死。多年之后，科學(xué)家們才找到這種怪病的起因：汞中毒。原來在水俁鎮(zhèn)有一家合醋酸的工廠，在生產(chǎn)過程中用汞做催化劑，然后把大量的含汞廢水排進(jìn)了水俁灣。汞的毒性很大，在水中微生物作用下，轉(zhuǎn)化成毒性更大的甲基汞，在魚、貝等體內(nèi)富集，人吃了這些被甲基汞污染的生物才得了可怕的水俁病。甲基汞會(huì)聚集在人腦中，損害腦神經(jīng)系統(tǒng)，因此貓與人都瘋了。
