OverviewofProjectManagementInstituteCertification

TheProjectManagementInstitute(PMI)sponsorsaprojectmanagementcertificationprogram.Thepurposeandgoalofthisprojectmanagementcertificationprogramisthedevelopment,maintenance,evaluation,promotion,andadministrationofarigorous,examination-based,professionalcertificationprogramofthehighestcaliber.

ThePMPProgramsupportstheinternationalcommunityofprojectmanagementprofessionalsandisdesignedtoobjectivelyassessandmeasureprofessionalknowledge.

PMPProgramrequirementsandeligibilitystandardsareappliedfairly,impartially,andconsistentlywithapplicablelaws.ThePMPProgramcomplieswithallUSAstateandfederalgovernmentnon-discriminatorystatutesandlawsandgrantscertificationindependentlyofacandidate’smembershipornon-membershipinanyorganization,associationorothergroup.

ToachievePMPcertification,eachcandidatemustsatisfyalleducationalandexperientialrequirementsestablishedbyPMIandmustdemonstrateanacceptableandvalidlevelofunderstandingandknowledgeaboutprojectmanagementthatistestedbytheProjectManagementProfessionalCertificationExamination.Inaddition,thosewhohavebeengrantedthePMPcredential(certificants)mustdemonstrateongoingprofessionalcommitmenttothefieldofprojectmanagementbysatisfyingProfessionalDevelopmentProgramrequirements.

Atthetimeofapplication,thecandidateholdsabachelor’sorequivalentuniversitydegreeandhasaminimumof4,500hoursofprojectmanagementexperiencewithinthefiveprocessgroups.

Eachquestionissubjectedtoeditingfortechnicaladequacybypsychometricconsultants.Thus,contentexperts(PMPs)writethequestionsandvalidatetheirappropriatenessfortheexamination,andexpertsintestingreviewthequestionstoensurethatthequestionsperformasintended.

PassingPoint

ThepassingpointforthePMPCertificationExaminationisdeterminedbyacriterion-referencedapproachcalledtheAngoffModifiedTechnique.Thistechniqueiscurrentlyconsideredbytestingprofessionalstobeoneofthemostdefensiblecriterion-referencedmethodsavailableforestablishingpassingpointsbecauseitreliesonthepooledjudgmentsofcontentexperts(PMPs).Withthisapproach,agroupofPMPjudgesisaskedtorevieweachitemontheexamination.Foreachquestion,judgesdeterminetheprobabilitythatminimallyknowledgeablecandidateswillanswertheitemcorrectly.Theaverageoftheprobabilitiesismultipliedbythetotalnumberofquestionsontheexamination.Theresultthenrepresentstheminimallyacceptablescore.Thefinalpassingpointfortheexaminationisbasedonthispooledjudgmentandthecalculationofthestandarderrorofthemean.Finally,itemanalysisandreliabilityindexesarecalculatedforeachquestion.

ThePMPCertificationExaminationiscomprisedof200multiple-choicequestions.Theallottedtimetocompletetheexamis4.5hours.Thespecificationsfortheexaminationarebasedonjobanalysisresults.Thebreakdownisasfollows:

RequestforSpecialExaminationAccommodations

AnycandidatemayrequestamodificationinthePMPCertificationExaminationadministrationprocedureduetodisability,handicap,orotherconditionwhichmayimpairtheabilityofthecandidatetotaketheexamination.Inordertorequestspecialtestingaccommodations,thecandidatemustproperlycompletetheRequestforSpecialAccommodationsforthePMPCertificationExaminationForm,whichcanberequestedfromthePMICertificationDepartment.

ThecandidatemustprovidethePMICertificationDepartmentwithwrittendocumentationfromanappropriatehealthcareprofessionalsupportingtherequestedtestingaccommodation.

Thisdocumentationmust:

Thecandidateisresponsiblefordemonstratingthattherequestshouldbegranted.ThePMICertificationDepartmentshallreviewtherequestandnotifythecandidateofitsdetermination.ThePMICertificationDepartmentwillnotpayanycoststhatmaybeincurredbythecandidateinobtainingtherequireddiagnosisandrecommendation.However,thePMICertificationDepartmentwillpayforanyjustifiedandreasonabletest-relatedaccommodationstobeprovidedtothecandidate.

ExaminationAdministrationConductandProhibitions

Onlytheindividualnamedontheregistrationrosterwillbepermittedtotaketheexamination.Candidatesmustpresentanofficial,validpictureidentificationcardatregistration.Nosubstitutionsareallowedforregisteredcandidates.

Candidatesareexpectedtoconductthemselvesinaprofessionalmanneratalltimesatthetestingsite.Testsitepersonnelwilldismissanydisruptivecandidatesfromthesiteif,intheopinionofthetestsiteadministrator,thecandidateisdisturbingthetestingenvironment.Norefundswillbe

giventocandidatesexpelledorrequiredtoleavetheexaminationduetodisruptivebehavior.

Novisitorsarepermittedintestingrooms(includingchildren).Candidatesmaynotbringfood,beverages,coats,bookbags,luggage,pagers,celltelephones,taperecorders,orotherpersonalitemstotheexaminationdesks.Inaddition,smokingandallelectronicdevicesareprohibitedinthetestsite.

Programmablecalculators,whichareinstrumentsthatcanstoremathematicalformulae,areprohibited.Theuseofnon-programmablecalculatorsisallowed.Thesecalculatorsmustbesilent,haveaself-containedpowersource(battery),notincludeaprintingmechanism,andnotincludeafullalphabeticcharacterset.

ExaminationResultsNotificationandScoreReport

ThePMICertificationDepartmentcontactseachcandidatebymailaftertheexaminationdatetoadvisecandidatesofexaminationresults.Noresultswillbegivenoverthephone,faxedore-mailed.QuestionsconcerningthescoringoftheexaminationshouldbedirectedtothePMICertificationProgramManager.

CandidatesmustpasstheexaminationinordertobeawardedPMPcertificationstatus.Candidatesfailingtheexaminationmustrepeattheexaminationtobecomecertified.Are-examinationformwillbeenclosedwiththeexaminationscorereportthatissenttoapplicantsnotpassingtheexamination.Inordertoschedulearetakeoftheexamination,thisformmustbecompletedandmailedtothePMICertificationDepartment,FourCampusBoulevard,NewtownSquare,PA19703-3299USA.Thisformmustbeusedwithinone(1)yearfromthedateoforiginalapplicationandpayment.

PMITestSecurityAndConfidentialityPolicy

ThePMPCertificationExamination,itembank,scoringkeys,answersheets,worksheets,andanyotherexaminationorexamination-relatedmaterialsremainthesoleandexclusivepropertyofPMI.Thesematerialsareconfidentialandarenotavailableforreviewbyanypersonoragencyforanyreason.

Examinationscoresareconfidentialandwillnotbedisclosedunlessdirectedtodosobyvalidandlawfulsubpoenaorcourtorder.AcandidaterequestingthatanexaminationscorebereleasedtoathirdpartymustprovidePMIwithawrittenrequestspecificallyidentifyingwhichexaminationscoremaybedisclosedandthepersonororganizationtowhomthescoreshouldberevealed.AnyviolationofthePMITestSecurityandConfidentialityPolicymaybesubjecttodisciplinaryaction(s)bythePMICertificationDepartment.

PMPApplicationandCertificationAppealProcedures

ThePMPCertificationProgramisadministeredandsupervisedbythePMICertificationProgramManager.AllchallengesregardingactionsofandbythePMPCertificationProgramaregovernedbythecomprehensiveandexclusiverulescontainedinthePMPCertificationAppealProcedures.ThisappealsprocessistheonlywaytoresolveanyPMPapplication,eligibility,examination,qualification,professionaldevelopment,andothercertificationchallenges,complaintsand/orclaimsofirregularities.

Acandidateorcertificantmaysubmitarequest,inwriting,forreviewofanadversePMPCertificationProgramaction,decision,ordeterminationtothePMICertificationProgramManager,consistentwiththerequirementsoftheCertificationAppealProcedures.

AfterattainingtheProjectManagementProfessionalCertification,allPMPsmustsatisfytherequirementsoftheProfessionalDevelopmentProgramtomaintaintheirPMPstatus.

IagreetosatisfyandconductmyselfinaccordancewithallPMIcertificationandprofessionaldevelopmentpoliciesandrequirements,includingthePMPCodeofEthics,professionaldevelopmentrequirements,andallotherPMICertificationProgramPoliciesandProcedures,intheircurrentoramendedform,andmaintainconfidentialityofexaminationquestionsandcontent.

Iagreethatanyintentionalorunintentionalfailuretoprovidetrue,timely,andcompleteresponsestoquestionsinthisapplicationorrenewalform,mayleadtofurtherinvestigation,and/orsanctionsbyPMI.

IagreetonotifythePMICertificationDepartmentinatimelymannerofchangesconcerningtheinformationIhaveprovided,includingmycurrentaddressandtelephonenumber.

IhavereportedtothePMICertificationDepartment,andwillreporttothePMICertificationDepartmentwithinsixty(60)days,anylegalorprofessional/occupationalmatters,proceedings,lawsuits,administrativeagencyactions,settlementsandagreements,ororganizationalactionsrelatingtome,includingallcomplaintsrelatingtomyprofessionalactivitiesasaprojectmanager,andmattersorproceedingsinvolving,butnotlimitedto,criminalcharges,lesseroffenses,certification,malpractice,disciplinaryethics,orsimilarmatter(s).

Iagreethatifmycompliancewithanyofthetermsofthisagreementrequiresorincludesanexplanationandsupportingdocuments,IwillprovideacompleteandaccurateexplanationandtruecopiesofthematerialstothePMICertificationDepartmentwiththisapplication.

IagreethatthePMICertificationDepartmenthastherighttocommunicatewithanyperson,governmentagency,ororganizationtorevieworconfirmtheinformationinthisapplicationoranyotherinformationrelatedtomyapplicationforPMIcertification.Further,IagreetoandauthorizethereleaseofanyinformationrequestedbythePMICertificationDepartmentforsuchreviewandconfirmation.

IagreethatcertificationasaPMPdoesnotimplylicensure,registration,orgovernmentauthorizationtopracticeprojectmanagementortoengageinrelatedactivities.

IagreethatallmaterialsthatIsubmittothePMICertificationDepartmentbecomethepropertyofthePMICertificationDepartment,andthatthePMICertificationDepartmentisnotrequiredtoreturnanyofthesematerialstome.

IunderstandthatifPMIiscontactedaboutmycertificationstatus,PMIwillreleasethisinformation.

IagreethatinformationrelatedtomyparticipationinthePMPcertificationprocessmaybeusedinananonymousmannerforresearchpurposesonly.

Iagreethatalldisputesrelatinginanywaytomyapplicationforthecertificationexamination,orprofessionaldevelopmentwillberesolvedsolelyandexclusivelybymeansofPMICertificationDepartmentpolicies,proceduresandrules,includingtheCertificationAppealsProcess.

IreleaseandindemnifyPMIandthePMICertificationDepartmentfromallliabilityandclaimsthatmayariseoutof,orberelatedtomyprojectmanagementandrelatedactivities.

Iherebyrelease,discharge,andindemnifyPMI,itsdirectors,officers,members,examiners,employees,attorneys,representatives,agents,andthePMICertificationDepartmentfromanyactions,suits,obligations,damages,claims,ordemandsarisingoutof,orinconnectionwith,thisapplication,thescoresgivenwithrespecttotheexamination,oranyotheractiontakenbyPMIwithregardtocertification,testing,andprofessionaldevelopment,including,butnotlimitedto,allactionsrelatedtoethicsmattersandcases.Iunderstandandagreethatanydecisionconcerningmyqualificationforanycertification,aswellasanydecisionsregardingmycontinuingqualificationforanycertificationandmycompliancewiththePMPCodeofEthics,restwithinthesoleandexclusived
