WilliamdeclinedthisofferandwasgivenownershipoftheExaminerinMarch

acquirethebestequipmentandwritersavailable.

William,sresolvetosucceedinspiredhimtopublishjuicy(有趣的)talesofvice

andstoriesfullofdramaandmotivation(積極,性,動(dòng)機(jī)).In1895,hepurchasedthe

NewYorkMorningJournal,puttinghimindirectcompetitionwiththe

distinguished(杰出的)JosephPulitzerandacirculation(傳播,發(fā)行)warbegan.

abundantillustrations.Atthetime,manypeoplebelievedWilliamactuallymight

toonereport,whenoneofhiscorrespondents,FrederickRemington,requestedto

returnfromHavana,WilliamrespondedthatifRemingtonwouldfurnishthe

saying,“MakethenewsthoroughPrintallthenews.Condenseitifnecessary.

Anotherclassicexampleofhisinfluenceoccurredwhen;merelymonthsafter

headvocatedpoliticalassassination4音殺)inaneditorial,AmericanPresident

McKinleywasassassinated.

grewtocompriseatotalof12newspapers,includingtheExaminer,and25

magazines,includingCosmopolitan.Notsatisfiedwithjusthispublishing

enterprises,heexpandedhisbusinessoperationsintoradio,andlaterproduced
