studentsthemselves-thatindicatescheatingisrampant.AreportlastJuneby

RutgersUniversityprofessorDonaldMcCabeforTheCenterforAcademic

Integrityshowed70percentofstudentsat60collegesadmittingtosome

cheatingwithinthepreviousyear;oneinfouradmittedtoengaginginserious

cheating(copyingfromanotherstudent,usingconcealednotes,orhelping

18,000highschoolstudentssurveyedacrossthecountryoverthepastfour

years,70percentofthoseinpublicschoolsadmittedtoatleastonecaseof

numberofpost-graduatetesttakersbegantogrowrapidlyandsteadily.

However,sincethen,therisinglinehasgraduallyplateauedyearbyyear,with

amodestriseof6.7%,1.8%,2.1%respectivelyin2004,2005,2006.In2007,

thenumberoftesttakersevendroppedby6.5%incomparisonwith2006.All

thesestatisticspointtoaninterestingphenomenon—thepost-graduatetest,

afteraten-yearcraze,isstartingtocooloff.Threemajorfactorsaccountfor
