1、59Unit 1 School life單元總體規(guī)劃:內(nèi)容預(yù)覽School life is the theme of this un it. The purposes of this un it are to lear n about school life in the UK, to identify the differences between school life in the UK and in China, to enlarge the vocabulary about school facilities, and to recognize attributive clauses

2、, including designing a poster for a new school club. In Welcome to the unit, the students will be presented with four differe nt aspects of school life in the UK and are asked to compare the differe nces betwee n high schools in the UK and in Chi na. The Readi ng text deals with an article from a s

3、chool magaz ine, which gives us specific in formatio n about what school life in the UK is really like. Word Power focuses on words and phrases related to school facilities, with releva nt exercises to stre ngthe n the students aility to use these phrases. In Grammar and Usage, the students will lea

4、rn what an attributive clause is and what relative pronouns and relative adverbs function as in this clause. They will learn in what circumsta nces that, which, who, whom or whose are used. Followi ng is the Task section dealing with reporting school activities, in which students will practice the I

5、anguage skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. They will learn how to talk about school activities and write a no tice about one of them. In the Project sect ion, stude nts will be asked to read two texts about school clubs and desig n an attractive poster for a new school club. In the

6、 self-assessme nt sect ion, the stude nts are supposed to rank their con fide nee level on differe nt skills with the help of the chart on page 20 first, and the n they can make pla ns to improve some parts, with which they have some difficulty. If possible, the stude nts can turn to the teacher or

7、their classmates for help.This unit not only provides a cha nee for stude nts to get an idea of school life in the UK and asks them to identify the differences between school life and in the UK and in China, but also intends to teach the stude nts the two of the basic read ing skills, skim ming and

8、sca nning, which are important to improve the students reading ability. This unit will practice topic-related skills. Stude nts are expected to participate fully, in order to develop both their Ian guage skills and overall abilities. Also this unit enables students to compare different information g

9、iven to them and choose useful information needed, and lastly, to make correct decisions. They are expected to apply what they have lear nt to practical use by desig ning a poster for a new school club. A series of activities are desig ned to develop the stude nts liste ning, speak ing, readi ng and

14、e nts speak ing ability.School life is the topic of the un it, which is a proper subject for stude nts who just en ter high school from junior school. At the begi nning of the term, the stude nts in senior one may feel very curious about the fresh school environment. High school is a time that will

15、be treasured and kept in our memories forever. Therefore, it is a good cha nee for the teacher to lead in this topic. First of all, teachers can let the stude nts recall their junior life, and ask what high school life they think will be like. The teacher can en courage them to show their opinions a

16、bout the differe nces betwee n high school and junior school. Later, the teacher can take different measures to enable them to compare school life in the Un ited Kin gdom with school life in China. In this sect ion, four pictures and texts represe nti ng school life in the UK are give n. Each text g

17、ives a brief descripti on of the subject. The teacher can divide the stude nts into groups to discuss the four topics: school build in gs; school facilities; class teachi ng and the nu mber of stude nts in each class; the relati on ship betwee n teachers and stude nts. Stude nts are expected to be active in the discussi on, practice their spoke n En glish and express their opinions by compari ng and discuss ing the differe nces betwee n school life in the UK and in China.
