2、theprosperityofindustrialization and urbanization.Duringthe 19thcentury,theAmericaneconomy developedat so fast rate thatmost peoplewere boundupinpursuing the materialsatisfaction , while ingoredthe spiritual life to a great extent. But Thoreau wasquite different from otherpeople,hedisdainedthemodern

3、civilizationandattachedmore importance tothe spirit than the material. He thought many peopleof his time lived in anon-human-likemodernsocietyandmanymodernappliances, such as trains andtelegraphs,had done harm to people s harmonious lifepeace and also broken therelationship between human and nature.

4、In order to prove that without the modern instruments , people can alsolive a happy life, in 1845, he moved into a cabin on the shore of Walden Pondand live there alone for two years to get close to the nature .Walden, is thefamous book mainly talks about his life and thoughtsduring those days livin

5、g inthe woods .Thoreau was so happy withthe lifeof Walden that hefelt it a sweet grace to have the natureand even the sounds of rainlivingnear the lake accompanyand the sights around his house were full of sincerefriendship. In his eyes,the naturewas an intimatefriendofhim and allthingsin the nature

6、 werelivelyand vivacious.And allkindsof animalsinthewood, such as fieldmouses, robins and wild rabbits were amicably treated and regarded as hisadorable companions. He even thought that plants were also had the right to liveequal with human beings. Just because of this, he even blamed himself forhit

From many words or sentences, we can easilyfeel Thoreau s deep love and care towards nature.Besides, Thoreau was a pioneering nature lover, whocalled on people tostop destoryingnaturebutprotectitby settinghimselfan example to others.The consciousness of the environme

8、ntal protection isbecoming more and moreimportantin ourmodern society,whilethewhole worldis trapped in someseriousecologicalcrisisesresultingfromhunting andkilling animals, cuttingdown trees and pollutingtheriversforpursuitofhumanbeings own interests.Weallhavethecommon sensethatthe numberofwildlife

9、is decreasing, thearea of lake is shrinking, and the water is not clearany more. Whats worse,environment problems such as globe warming, climatechange and air and waterpollutionaredeterioratingduringthecommercialprocess . So it s high timethatwe shouldrealizewe never be thedominatorofthewhole world

10、conquringnature,but shouldspare no effortstoimprovetheenvironment right away. Thatis,weshouldcomplywiththenaturallaws,makereasonable utilization ofnatural resources and keep the harmonious developmentbetween the society andtheenvironment.Onlyinthiswaywillwehasanopportunity to embrace a brightfuture

11、and achieve a sustainable society .In the book, Walden, Thoreau not only advocated theprotection of nature,but also encourage people to comprehend and return to nature. He told us usinghis own experience that by living a simple life close to nature, we human beingswill find out the true value of lif

12、e and significance of existence.After reading the book, what impressed me most is thedescription of thefascinatingsceneryaroundtheWaldenpound,especially these sentences:“ A lakeisthe landscape s mostbeautifuland expressivefeature. It is earth s eye;looking into which the beholder measures the depth

13、ofhis own nature. Thefluviatiletreesnexttheshorearetheslendereyelashes which fringe it, andthewooded hillsand cliffsaroundareitsoverhangingbrows ”. To Thoreau, theWalden lake is like a charming and melting girl , whohas slender eyelashes andlikes to dress herself in different beautiful clothes with

14、the changes ofdifferent seasons.Every morning after getting up, Thoreau would have a bath in the Waldenlake to start a new day. After that, he used to wander around the pond andrefresh himself with the fresh air. In summer days , he cultivated a piece ofland and growed beans, blackberries, johnswort

The depiction ofhis leisure rurality spontaneously reminds me of TaoYuanming, the famousChinesepoet,who livedintheJinDynastyand made hislife meaningful byreturningtothe natureandperfectinghimself.IfThoreau and Tao Yuanminglived inthesame periodand place,they would probablybecome best

16、 friends.From the book, we know that during the years when Thoreau lived near theWalden, he did not completely isolate himself from the outside world. Sometimeshe went to the town and did odd jobs and would receivevisitors and friends inhis cabin at times. As I mention before, the intention for his

17、living in thewoods was that he wanted to teach people how to live a simple life, achieveenjoyment from the nature, free oneself from the strained daily life and what ismore important is to reevaluate the value of social life.Thoreau s though of enjoying a simple life has a morerealisticsignificancea

18、ndhave become a valuable spiritualwealth in our modern society.With the development of thematerialcivilization,people s desires are swellinglimitlessly and many people are busy with the pursuitof wealth and luxuriouslife by any means, including at the expense of nature.However, even in thesocietymat

19、eriallyaffluentandtechnologicallyadvanced , people are not bemore happierthanthosepeoplewho livedcenturies ago,but even feel lesssatisfactory and complaint more about their present life as a result of havingunbounded desires of getting more and better. Therefore, many people who possessa lat have be

20、come slaves of machine, working more butdo not have the ability toenjoy what they have.In the book Walden, Thoreau had realize this problemseveral hundreds ago.Thus, he set his mind to give a enlightenment to awakepeople and encourage themtoliveasimplelife.His thoughts havegreatsimilaritywith the be

21、lief ofourChinesehumanism, thatis,the meaning of lifeliesin the sane and healthyenjoyment of a simple life. In fact, Thoreau and histeacher and friend Emersonpraisedhighlyon Confucianismand both them benefiteda lot from it.I am veryhappytoseetheinterlinkedplace between Chineseculture and westerncult

22、ure.Reading this book is like having a tranquil steam flow through my heart,washing the dust in my mind. 25、 made Thoreau go to build a cabinon the shore of Walden Pond and live alone to close to the nature in 1845.Later, he wrote the famous book, Walden, which mainly talks about his life andthoughts during he lived alone in the woods near Walden Pond.When Walden was published in 1854, it was not wellacce

43、econtention that the conceptofindividual responsibility is no existence buta fiction. Moreover, thespeaker says that the behaviors of human beings arefundamentally determined bythe environmentwhich out of theircontrol.Admittedly,one s actions are deeplyinfluencedby laws,societies,schoolsand families

44、andother exterior forces;individual responsibility exists and functions as a significant role to rulepeople s behaviors as well.On one hand, the highest social animal as human beingis, any individualhas his specific role in a certain society. And thisspecific role gives onesocial identity and indivi

Though sometimes one would feel thatthecertainresponsibilityisobligationfromthesociety and organizationsratherthan his individualresponsibility at first,in most cases, theaccountabilitywouldpresumablybecomeo
