2、pointsII. IntroductionLead-in (導(dǎo)入):First, the students are asked to discuss the topic management and schedule. Then their opinions are written down on the blackboard. Finally, the introductory remarks will be madeby the teacher as follows:Everybody dreams of being a manager or CEO of a big company b

3、ecause it often represents great success. If your dream comes true one day, would you know how to arrange your business work well, how to write a work schedule, how to chair a business meeting, how to manage your people and so on? These are the basic qualities of a good manager. In this unit you'

4、;ll learn something about how to communicate like a successful manager.A schedule is used to plan a conference or an intended event. So the teaching Procedure of this part should be as follows:Pre-listening: provide the students with the new words and expressions; read through the questions and the chart in exercise 1 and 2, and make some predictions as to the content of the dialogue.While listening: as

24、k the students to listen to the dialogue for the first time and ask them just to understand the main idea of the dialogue not to finish the exercises; listen to the dialogue again and ask them to finish exercise 1; ask the students to repeat the dialogue sentence by sentence after the tape while the

25、 teacher will press the button“pause“ on the tape recorder; listento the dialogue as a whole for the last time.Post-listening: ask the students to finish exercise 2, i.e. answering questions. 29、of Difficult Sentences1. (Para. 3) The manager willingly said, Fire awayAnalysis: Fire away is a verbal phrase that means go ahead.Translation: “ 那你就問吧 ”。Example: All right, fire away, Tom. I am listening.2. ( Para. 4 ) Well, to begin with, do you hold regularly scheduled meetings with your subordin

30、ates?Analysis: To begin with is a parenthesis here. It can be replaced by to start with. Regularly scheduled can also be spelled with a hyphen between them as regularly-scheduled. A participle with a personifying adverb, usually showing the manner or modeof the verb action, can be used as a noun per

31、 modifier. Other examples are: well-paid job, nice-looking man, hand-written signature, hotly debated topic.Translation: “ 啊,首先請問您是否定期召集下屬開會(huì)?”Example: To begin with, all went well with him.The hand-written signature should be followed by a typed signature.3. ( Para. 7 ) I listen while my people revi

32、ew and analyze what they accomplished last week Analysis: What introduces an object clause, meaning the thing that and it is often translated as “什麼事情 /東西 /話語”等。Translation:“我聽取下屬總結(jié)分析上一周所做的工作Example: I can t describe what I felt at the moment.4. ( Para. 9 ) What would be the point of having the meet

33、ing if they weren t?Anal ysis: This is an elliptical sentence. After if they weren t ,the words binding on me and my people are omitted. The word point here means meaning/purpose/value.Translation: “當(dāng)然有約束力。 如果沒有約束力,開會(huì)還有什麼意義呢?”Example: What is the point of wasting time since we can t solve the proble

34、m now?5. ( Para. 14 ) By being organized we are a great deal more prodctive.Analysis: By being organized is a prepositional phrase made up of preposition + V-ing in its passive voice. Here the phrase is used as an adverbial of manner to modify the predicate.Translation: 組織起來,我們的工作效率就回大大提高。Example: B

35、y working together, the farmers could get in their crops before the weather turned cold.6. ( Para. 19 ) You don ' t believe me, do you?Analysis: Do you? is a tag question. If the statement is positive, the tag is negative, and vice versa.Translation: 你不相信我說的話,對(duì)嗎?Example: You had to wait a long t

36、ime to get your visa, didn' t you?7. ( Para. 29 ) He left the manager ' s office dumbfounded.Analysis: Dumbfoundedis an adjective, used as the subject complement. The sentence can be paraphrased as He was dumbfounded when he left the manager s office.Translation:他離開經(jīng)理辦公室,感到有些茫然不知所措。Example:

37、He was watching, dumbfounded, when suddenly he heard a scream.(2) Useful Words and Expressions1. schedule v|. plan for a certain future time, put into a regular timetable 列時(shí)間表,定時(shí)間n. a timetable of things to be done, program時(shí)間表e.g.: The meeting is scheduled to take place next week.We scheduled meetin

38、gs for each day of our business trip.He planned his work schedule for the following month.2. accomplish v. succeed in doing or finishing something 達(dá)至U目的,完成計(jì)劃,實(shí)現(xiàn)e.g.: We can accomplish whatever they can, and with better results.The builders accomplished the difficult project they were paid to do.She

39、has accomplished much in her short career.3. bind v cause to obey, esp. by a law or a promise, tie使受約束e.g.: Since I am bound by my promise to help them, I' ll never eatmy words.They have bound by their marriage vowels.His signature on the contract binds him to its conditions.4. binding a.
