Functional equivalence refers to the equivalenceon the functions but not on th
4、e forms and structures.In our daily life, we live with different advertisements, some ofwhich are translated works. These advertisements are aimed at giving thepotential customers a lasting impression and persuading them to buy theirproduct. Therefore, in order to express the ideas of the original w
5、orksand realize the goal for sale, the translators should take account of thecultural elements and social elements in order to achieve functionalequivalence.Thispaperconsistsofthreeparts.The firstpartdealswiththeconcept of functional equivalence and its aims and principles. The mainaimoffunctionaleq
6、uivalenceistorepresenttheinformationoftheoriginalworkinthetargetlanguageandachievetheequivalenceoffunctionsoflanguages.Inordertomakethisconceptclear,theauthorgivesabriefintroductionofdifferentfunctions.Althoughdifferentlanguageshave differentcharacteristics,theirfunctionsarenearly the same. That is

Theequivalence of languages makes it possible to convert the source languageinto the target language. However

Thetranslated work can be of higher quality if it achieves more equivalencewith the original work.Functional equivalence is originally
26、 termed as dynamic equivalence,which istobe defined by thedegreewherethereceptorofthesourcelanguagemessageshouldrespondinsubstantiallythesamewayasthetargetlanguage receptor to thetranslated version. 29、slators. The translators devoted to English-Chinese translation may agree with him.
