19、avealsocontinuedtomakegreatstrideswiththeefficiencyofourownoperations.In2009,weachievedourglobalgoaltodesignandopenaviablestoreprototypeineverymarketthatis25to30percentmoreefficientandwillproduceupto30percentfewerGHGemissionsthanthe2005baselire.Asproudasweareofwhatwehaveachievedontheenvironmenlweare
20、justasexcitedabouthowwearebuildingonourmomentum.Werecentlyannouncedanaggressivegoaltoeliminate20millionmetrictonsofGHGsfromourglobalsupplychainbytheendof2015.Thisrepresentsoneandahalftimesouranticipatedcumulativecarbonfootprintgrowthoverthenextfiveyearsandisequaltowhat3.8millioncarsemitinGHGsduringo
21、neyear.Therearemanyopportunitiesthroughouttheproductlifecycle一fromthesourcingoftherawmaterials,tothemanufacturingofaproduct,toitstransportation,andtohowcustomersuseit,disposeofitandrecycleit.LastJuly,weannouncedthedevelopmentofaSustainableProductIndextogivemanufacturers,merchantsandcustomersthetools
22、tomakemoresustainabledecisions.TheSustainabilityConsortium,consistingofleadersfromuniversities,suppliers,NGOsandretailers,willdevelopthesciencebehindtheIndexandstepsformovingforward.WearepleasedthatoursuppliersareintheprocessofansweringourSupplierSustainabilityAssessment一acriticalfirststepfortheInde
23、x.TheIndexisdrivingefficiencyandinnovativeproductimprovements,whichimprovesbothbusinessandenvironmentairesults.Wearecertainitsdoingthesameforoursuppliersandevenotherretailerswhoarehelpinginthiseffort.ResponsibleSourcingAnotherareawherewebelievewehavemadegoodprogressoverthepastyeariswithourglobalnetw
24、orkofmorethan100r000suppliers.Weareespeciallygratefulforthesupportandcollaborationoursuppliershaveprovidedintheareaofethicalsourcing.AtourBeijingSustainabilitySummitin2008,wesetaggressivegoalstobuildamoreenvironmentallyandsociallyresponsiblesupplychain.Wehaveworkedinternallyandwithsupplierstoovercom
25、ethechallengesweknewwewouldface.WearepleasedwiththeprogressonthegoalswelaidoutinBeijing.Forexample,weannouncedthatby2012wewouldrequirealldirectimportsupplierstosource95percentoftheirproductionfromfactoriesthatreceiveoneofourtwohighestauditratingsforsocialandenvironmentalpractices.Today,93percentofou
26、rdirectsourcingmerchandiseisproducedintop-ratedfactories.WealsoannouncedagoaltoengageonemillionfarmersinChinathroughourDirectFarmprogram.Attheendoflastyear,WalmartChinahadbuilt28directfarmplatformsin14provincesandmunicipalitieswith280,000participatingfarmers,andWalmartdeMexicoandBhartiWalmartinIndia

29、dtheWalmartFoundationprovidedmorethan$1.5millioninfinancialsupport,includingin-kindcontributionssuchasdonationsofpre-packagedfoodkits,blanketsandfacemasks.Lastyear,donationeffortsledbyWalmartBrazilresultedinmorethan490tonsoffood,163,000books,118,000winterclothingitemsand12z000toysbeinggiventothosein

34、nated$467milliontononprofitsintheUnitedStates,whichisan$89millionincreaseoverthepreviousyear.Andinourinternationalmarkets,Walmartgave$45millionincashandin-kindgifts.Intheseefforts,wehaveputaspecialfocusonhelpingalleviatehunger.Wedonatedmorethan127millionpoundsoffoodintheUnitedStates,andinMexicowehel
35、pedfeedmorethan26.500childrensufferingfrommainutritionandsupportedprojectsin140communities.Werreproudofthe$1milliongrantthattheWalmartFoundationmadetoCARElastyear.Itwillhelpempowerimpoverishedyoungwomenthrougheducation,job-trainingandentrepreneurialprogramswhereoureffortswillinitiallyfocusonlocalcom
