muchofCentralAsia,andtheSilkRoaddeclinedinimportancewhentradingviasea-routesbegantodominate

thetangut(西夏）andtheYuanDynasty，

MogaoCavesgraduallyhastenthedecline，

onlyrepairedthepreviousdynastyholeroom（孔房）

248cavesofnorthwhichhasalsobeenfoundtothenorthwhichwerelivingquarters（住處）,meditationchambers（冥想室）andburialsites（土葬）forthemonks.Thecavesareclustered（聚合）togetheraccordingtotheirera,withnewcavesfromanewdynastybeingconstructedindifferentpartofthecliff。
