ForbiddenThesiteoftheForbiddenCitywassituatedontheImperialCityduringtheMongolYuanDynasty.UpontheestablishmentoftheMingDynasty,theHongwuEmperormovedthecapitalfromBeijinginthenorthtoNanjinginthesouth,andorderedthattheYuanpalacesbeburntdown.WhenhissonZhuDibecametheYongleEmperor,hemovedthecapitalbacktoBeijing,andconstructionbeganin1406ofwhatwouldbecometheForbiddenCity.Sincethen,foralmostfivehundredyears,itservedasthehomeof24emperorsandtheirhouseholds,aswellastheceremonialandpoliticalcenterofChinesegovernment.Thissplendidpalaceisthesymbolofthesupremepowerandstatusofthe

royal

family.Inthatcase,thispalacewasforbidden,noonecouldenterandleave

the

palacewithouttheemperor’spermission,theonlyresultofviolatingisdeath.City

Itishugethanwhatyoucanimagine.Builtin1406to1420,thecomplexconsistsof980buildingswith8,707baysofroomsandcovers720,000m2.It’sawalledcity.（城中城）.TheForbiddenCitywasdeclaredaWorldHeritageSitein198
