thesick.Heinventedspecialmedicaltoolstouseoutsidehospitalsandclosetothefightingareassothatdoctorscouldtreatthewoundedmorequickly.Hisinventionssavedmanylives.

In1938,DrBethunecametoChinaandhelpedtreatthewoundedduringtheAnti-JapaneseWar.Atthattime,therewerefewdoctors,sohehadtoworkveryhardonhisown.HisexperienceoftreatingpeopleinSpainwasusefulinChina.Hedevelopedtrainingcoursesforlocaldoctorsandnurses,andwrotebookssothattheycouldlearnabouthowhetreatedthesick.

operation,buthecontinuedhisworkwithouttreatingit.Intheend,hediedofhiswound.
