Healthcareprofessionalsandhospitalsfacedunprecedented

pressureincombatingthevirus.Healthsystemsworldwidewereseverelytested,fromphysicalinfrastructureincludingbedsandmedicalequipmenttostaffingandtheavailabilityofmedicines.

Economically,thepandemicincreasedtheworldwideextremepovertyratetoanestimated9.3%in2020,upfrom8.4%in2019.Manymanufacturersandothercompanieswereforcedtoclose,andinternationaltradewasalsobadlyaffected.
