Whilefamousforeignarchitectsareinvitedtoleadthedesignsof

landmarkbuildingsinChinasuchasthenewCCTVtowerandthe

NationalCenterforthePerformingArts,manyexcellentChinese

architectsaremakinggreateffortstotakethecenterstage.

Theireffortshavebeenprovenfruitful.WangShu,a49-year-old

Chinesearchitect,wonthe2012PritzkerArchitecturePrize—whichis

oftenreferredtoastheNobelPrizeinarchitecture—onFebruary28.He

WangservesasheadoftheArchitectureDepartmentattheChina

AcademyofArt(CAA).HisofficeislocatedattheXiangshancampus(校

園)oftheuniversityinHangzhou,ZhejiangProvince.Manybuildingson

thecampusarehisoriginalcreations.

ThestyleofthecampusisquitedifferentfromthatofmostChinese

universities.Manyvisitorswereamazedbythecomplexarchitectural

spaceandabundantbuildingtypes.Thecurves(曲線)ofthebuildings

perfectlymatchtheriseandfallofhills,formingauniqueview.

Wangcollectedmorethan7millionabandonedbricksofdifferent

ages.Heaskedtheworkerstousetraditionaltechniquestomakethe

bricksintowalls,roofsandcorridors.Thiscreationattractedalotof

attentionthankstoitsmixtureofmodernandtraditionalChinese

elements(元素).

Wang'sworksshowadeepunderstandingofmodernarchitecture

andagoodknowledgeoftraditions.Throughsuchabalance,hehad

createdanewtypeofChinesearchitecture,saidTadaoAndo,thewinner

ofthe1995PritzkerPrize.

Wangbelievestraditionsshouldnotbesealedinglassboxesat

museums."Thatisonlyevidencethattraditionsonceexisted,"hesaid.

"ManyChinesepeoplehaveamisunderstandingoftraditions.They

thinktraditionmeansoldthingsfromthepast.Infact,traditionalsorefers

tothethingsthathavebeendevelopingandthatarestillbeingcreated,"

hesaid.

"Today,manyChinesepeoplearelearningWesternstylesand

theoriesratherthanfocusingonChinesetraditions.Manypeopletendto

talkabouttraditionswithoutknowingwhattheyreallyare,"saidWang.

counsel(建議)parentslookingfordataabouttheeffectofe-readersand

tabletsonreading.Itdoespointoutthatmanyparentsstilllimitelectronic

readingmainlyduetoconcernsaboutincreasedscreentime.

Themosthopefuldatasharedinthereportshowsclearevidenceof

parentsservingasexamplesandimportantguidesfortheirkidswhenit

inrecenttimestherehasbeenlesscomingandalotmoregoing.When

thetheworldwasstillpopulatedbyhunter-gatherers,small,tightlyknit

Afteryearsofheateddebate,graywolveswerereintroducedto

YellowstoneNationalPark.FourteenwolveswerecaughtinCanadaand
