TheGMP+FeedSafetyAssurancescheme(GMP+FSA)hasbeendevelopedsin-ce1992.Itwasmanagedfrom1992upuntil2009bytheProductBoardAnimalFeed,TheHague,TheNetherlands.Since2010,thisschemeismanagedbyGMP+International.

Itisaschemeforassuringfeedsafetyinallthelinksinthefeedchain.Itisalsoaninternationalscheme,applicableworldwide.

Theestablishmentanddevelopmentoftheschemewasprimarilytheresultofde-mandfromthesubsequentlinksintheanimalproductionchainforbettercontroloffeedsafety.Anothercontributoryfactorwasthedamagecausedbymoreandlessseriouscontaminationincidents.

IntheinitialphasethedemandaroseforbetterdifferentiationinanincreasinglysaturatedEuropeansalesmarketforanimalproducts.Since1999,feed&foodsafetyhasbeenatopissueinternationallybothpoliticallyandcommercially,be-causeofseriousincidentsinthefeedsector.Becauseofthis,demonstrableassur-anceoffeedsafetyhasbecomeasalesprerequisite.

ThebasicprincipleoftheGMP+FSAschemeisthatthefeedchainispartofthewholeanimalproductionchain.Properassuranceoffeedsafetyworldwideisahighpriority.Companiesmustliveuptotheirresponsibilitiesandrespondproperlyandconvincinglytotheneedsofanimalproduction.TheGMP+FSAschemeisanaidtorealisethis.
