英語(yǔ)作文之Change Changehasbeentheoneconstantinmylife.WhilestaringoutatthebleakWisconsinwinter,Ithinkbacktomybeginningsonawarmtropicalisland.ThebiggestchangewasprobablythefirstmovingfromthatbuzzingSpanishspeakingisletothesleepyseasidetownthatwasTampain1978.Ittookmesometimetorealizethattheotherpreschoolerscouldnotunderstandmynativetongue.Beforelong,Itoowasspeakingtheirlanguage. FiveyearslaterI,anexcitedeightyearoldgirl,boardedaschoolbusinNewJersey.TheexcitementquicklyturnedtofearasIheardrampantswearinginthebackofthebus.Iwastrulyshockedwhenthebusdriverdidnothingtostopthevulgarity.InmyschoolsinFloridasuchbehaviorwouldhavemetwithabarofsoapandavisittotheprincipaloffice.Ayearlater,IhadaJerseyaccent,andhadstartedswearingtoo. Afternineyearsmyfamilythenmovedtoaplacecalledawhole鈥檔othercountry:Texas.IdiscoveredthateverythingisbiggerinTexas,fromthesizeofaglassoficeteatothedistancesontheroad.MymotheraddedbarbecuedbriskettotheregularmenuofturkeyandIdahopotatoesonMondayandarrozconpolloonTuesday. TheincrediblyfriendlyTexans,wearingcowboybootsandgoingtohighschoolfootballgamesonFridaynights,seemedatotallydifferentbreedfrommyfriendsinNewJersey.Aslightdrawlenteredmyspeech. EachplaceIhavelivedhasitsdifferences,fromtheobviousdistinctionsofWisconsinandTexasweather,totheregionalvariationsoftheSpanishlanguage.IbringwithmewhereverIgoapartofthoseplacesandtheimpacttheyhavehadonmylife,mostevidenttoothersbythevariationsinmyspeech.Beneathalltheaccents,however,liessomethingmoresignificant,forIbelievewhoyouareisimmeasurablemoreimportantthanwhereyouwere.WhenIwasyounger,IcouldnotclearlydiscernbetweensituationswhereIshouldorshouldnotadoptthewaysofthosearoundme.WithmaturityhoweverIhaveetounderstandthecrucialdifferencebetweenadaptationandassimilation.IhavechosentorejectthevulgarityoftheNewJerseyschoolbus;IhavealsoadoptedtheTexanswarmandfriendlymanner.Havingexperiencedfrequentmovestoverydifferentsurroundings,Icanadaptwithoutpromisingwhatisimportanttomewhilelearningfromeachnewsetting.
