More than 20 per cent, or about HK$3bn ($386m) worth, of Zoomlions HK$14.7bn Hong Kong stock is out on loan, according to Data Explorers, making it the most borrowed stock in the market, a title it has held for several months. Zoomlion said that vendor financing is an international mode of business practised by Caterpillar and many other companies in its sector. It added that it has developed risk control systems and that its financing programme is transparent through its annual report, unlike some other Chinese companies which use obscure affiliates. However, some fear that buyers of its concrete mixing machines are doubling up on their debt by using new machines as collateral for further loans.
