Actually she did nothing wrong becausebeforeshe was seduced she knew nothing ofmen. She wasjust a girl when she first met that

2、terrible man.She was forced by the gossips and the church toblame herself for this accident, so she thought shedeserved nothing good. In order to get rid of the pastshe decided to go to a distantdairyfarmbut was stillsaying to herself that she was wrong. Maybe God didnt agree with that, because the

3、Lord gave her someoneshe loved with her whole heart and lifeAngel Chare.Angel popped the question to her but she refused himwithout saying why. She said she loved him deeply andperhaps no one in the world could love him more thanshe did but she could not marry him for some unspokenreason. Angel wasn

4、tsatisfiedwiththisvague answerand did his best to win Tess. Somehow she agreed andtheysoon fixed theweddingday.Soonaftertheirwedding Angelconfessed the crimehe xxmittedto a womanlong time ago and asked for Tesss forgiveness. Tesswas notat allangryand forgaveAngel at once; in factshe was ratherhappy

5、and excitedfor she alsohad thingsto confess.She sat and told everything to Angel, hoping hewould forgiveheras he was forgivenbut she was wrong.She was not forgiven, not as she thought she was. Thewoman pays.Without Angel s love, nothing meant anything toher. The resultwasnt importantnow. Tess was ar

6、restedfor her murder of that so-called gentleman. Why? Shestill loved Angel and when he finally went back to herand asked forHERforgiveness,afterhe regrettedwhathe had done unfairtoTess, she was desperate.That wastoo late Alec had always told Tess that Angel wouldnever xxe back so he won Tess s trus

The strengh of her love was so strong that shehad forgotten the difference between right and wrong.Before that she had done nothing wrong but when shekilled Alec, everything rea

8、lly changed! She became acriminal!How could itbe? She was as pureand innocentas the good wife in the Bible. Her whole character washonest and faithful. Angel figured out at last that aperson should be judged not only on what he has donebut also on what he wanted to do!Tess didn t want to be seduced

Angel also did the wrong thing and itwas even more seriousthanTess s crimebutHE was notblamed forit.Why itisalways the womanwho pays? Whythey are always hurt? Why was Tess s girlish puritylost? Why does the wrong m

10、an take the wrong woman? Whydo the bad often ruin the good? Why is beauty damagedby ugliness? Women are too weak! Thousands of years ofhistoryhaveshownusthat women havealwaysbeentreated unfairly!InoldChina therewas a culture,whichdidn tthinkof women as human beings. If you asked one if he wasthe old

11、estinhisfamily,he would probablyanswer“ theoldest one ” even if he had some elder sisters. If youaskedwhythenhewouldsay,“ Ha,theyare notincluded!”People gave birth to many girls in order to haveonlyone boy tokeep the familyname going.They thoughtgirls had no use for the family. They would be married

12、and go to live with their husbands home and be theirwives some day sooner or later. So they were extremelyhard on girls.Girls shouldbe hard working,faithful,loyal,intelligent,and virtuousand themost importantthingwas she must be a maiden! If her husband was the firstman who touched her then she was

13、a good girl, a goodwife no matter how she thought. If she wasn t, thenshe would gain a very bad reputation and nobody woulddaretogo nearher. What aboutmen? Peopledid not carewhether he was an experienced man or not, nor did theycareabouthischaracter.They thoughtman equalspowerand power equals rightsN
