1、English Food - Group 4British Traditional Foodsl British food has traditionally been based on beef, lamb, pork, chicken and fish and generally served with potatoes and one other vegetable. The most common and typical foods eaten in Britain include the sandwich, fish and chips, pies like the Cornish

2、pasty, trifle and roasts dinners. Some of the main dishes have strange names like Bubble & Squeak and Toad-in-the-Hole.l The staple foods of Britain are meat, fish, potatoes, flour, butter and eggs. Many of dishes are based on these foods.The traditional English breakfastl It consists of eggs, b

3、acon, sausages, fried bread, baked beans and mushrooms. Even though not many people will eat this for breakfast today, it is always served in hotels and guest houses around Britain. Many people, especially children, in England will eat a bowl of cereal. They are made with different grains such as co

4、rn, wheat, oats etc. In the winter many people will eat porridge or boiled oats.l The traditional English breakfast is called the Full English and sometimes referred to as The Full English Fry-up.l Many children at school and adults at work will have a packed lunch. This typically consists of a sand

5、wich, a packet of crisps, a piece of fruit and a drink. The packed lunch is kept in a plastic container.l Sandwiches are also known as a butty or sarnie in some parts of the UK.Lunch Dinner l The evening meal is usually called tea, dinner or supper.l A typical British meal for dinner is meat and two

6、 veg. We put hot brown gravy, traditionally made from the juices of the roast meat (but more often today from a packet!) on the meat and usually the vegetables. One of the vegetables is almost always potatoes.l This traditional meal is rarely eaten nowadays, a recent survey found that most people in

7、 Britain eat curry! Rice or pasta are now favored as the British Dinner.The Sunday Roast Dinnerl Sunday lunch time is a typical time to eat the traditional Sunday Roast. Traditionally it consists of roast meat, (cooked in the oven for about two hours), two different kinds of vegetables and potatoes

8、with a Yorkshire pudding. The most common joints are beef, lamb or pork; chicken is also popular.l Beef is eaten with hot white horseradish sauce, pork with sweet apple sauce and lamb with green mint sauce. Gravy is poured over the meat.Yorkshire pudding 約克郡布丁l Yorkshire Pudding is not a dessert in

9、spite of its name, although it is similar in some ways to a pancake made with flour, milk and eggs.
