TherelatednessbetweenlanguageandsocietyLanguageisusedtoestablishandmaintainsocialrelationship.Usersofthesamelanguagespeakdifferentlyduetotheirdifferentsocialbackground.Languagereflectsboththephysicalandsocialenvironmentsofasociety.Languageiscloselyrelatedtothestructureofthesociety.Speechcommunityandspeechvariety言語(yǔ)社區(qū)和言語(yǔ)變體Thesocialgroupthatissingledoutforanyspecialstudyiscalledthespeechcommunity.Speechvariety,orlanguagevariety,referstoanydistinguishableformofspeechusedbyaspeakeroragroupofspeakers.TwoapproachestosociolinguisticstudiesMacro-sociolinguistics:tolookatsocietyasawholeandconsiderhowlanguagefunctionsinitandhowitreflectsthesocialdifferentiations,i.e.abird’s-eyeviewofthelanguagesusedinsociety.
