ThetermyogacomesfromaSanskritwordwhichmeansyokeorunion.Traditionally,yogaisamethodjoiningtheindividualselfwiththeDivine,UniversalSpirit,orCosmicConsciousness.Physicalandmentalexercisesaredesignedtohelpachievethisgoal,alsocalledself-transcendenceorenlightenment.Onthephysicallevel,yogapostures,calledasanas,aredesignedtotone,strengthen,andalignthebody.
