TheGreatGatsby,writtenbyFitzgeraldK.Scott,isoneofthemostfamousclassics.ThenarratorofthestoryisNickandtheheroisGatsby.NickwasagraduateofYaleandthenhelivedintheWestEgg,whichwasinthewestofAmerica.AndthenhemadehisacquaintancewithGatsby,arichandmysteriousman.GatsbylovedDaisy,Nick’scousin,andhetriedhisbesttomeetheragainwiththehelpofNick.However,DaisyhadgotmarriedwithTomandshedidn’twanttobetrayherhusband.Unfortunately,Gatsbydidn’trealizethefactthatDaisyhadchangedalot,whichresultedinatragedy,andstillaskedhertoelopewithhim.WhentheywenthomefromNewYork,DaisykilledMyrtle,Tom’smistress,inanaccident.GatsbytooktheresponsibilityandkilledbyMyrtle’sangryhusbandatthelast.

Afterreadingthisbooks,Ifeltupsetforalongtime.Gatsbywasaninnocentmanandallhewantedwastoregainhislove.Toachievehisowndream,hetriedhisbesttoearnmoneyandraisedhissocialclassafterthewar.However,thesadtruthisthatthewomanGatsbylovedmostistheonewhoexploitedhimmost.AndtheresultofGatsby’seffortwashisdeathwhilehestillthoughtthatDaisylovehimwhenhedied.Wealwaysholdtheopinionthatweshouldworkhardforourdreamandwealsobelievedthatwecanachieveitwithoureffort.That’sthereasonwhyNickadded“theGreat”to“Gatsby”.However,Ithinkthatweshouldn’tdrownourselvesinourfancyallthetimeandweshouldthinkwhetherourdreamsarereasonableandachievable.Inthebook,GatsbywasdiedandNickdidn’tleadarichandcomfortablelifewhileTomandDaisyhadagreatfortuneandbelongedtotheupperclass.Somepeoplemaydrawtheconclusionthatwecan’tbeinnocentlikeGatsbyandNickorwewillsharethesameendingasthem.However,Idisagreewiththis.ThoughGatsby’slifewastragic,heenjoyedhislifeandwassatisfiedwithit.Ifyouhadwatchedthefilmadaptionofthisbooks,youmayfindthatGatsbyalwayssmile.AndNickhadabeautifulsoul.Ontheotherhand,TomandDaisydidn’tsufferfromthemateriallifebuttheymayfeelguiltyallthetime.Istronglybelievethefactthatwecanlivewellwithoutmuchmoneybutwithoutabeautifulmind.

ThereisonemorereasonwhyIlikethisbook.It’sthewritingskillsusedbyFitzgeraldthatmakesthisbooksaclassic.Oneoftheseskillsissymbolismandit’sthesymbolismusedinthebooksthatmakesitbecomeanirreplaceableclassics.TakethedreamofGatsbyasanexample,dreamisanabstractthingbutFitzgeraldusedthegreenlightshinningonthedockofDaisy’shouseasthesymbolofGatsby’sdream.What’smore,thechangeofDaisyisalsosymbolizedbythechangeofthegreenlight.WhenGatsbyinvitedDaisytohishouse,hefoundthegreenlightcoveredbyfog.It’sthesignalofthefactthatDaisywasnotthesweetgirlanymore.

ManypeopleliketotalkaboutthesocialclassconflictlinkedtoGatsbyandDaisywhentheytalkaboutthisbook.IagreethatGatsby’sstoryisanepitomeofthatageandtheAmericaDreambutIwouldratherconsideritasastoryofamanwhofightsforhisdreamall
