When reports came into London Zoo that a wild puma had been spotted forty-five miles south of London, they were not taken seriously. However, as the evidence began to accumulate, experts from the Zoo felt obliged t

2、o investigate, for the descriptions given by people who claimed to have seen the puma were extraordinarily similar. The hunt for the puma began in a small village where a woman picking blackberries saw a large cat only five yards away from her. It immediately ran away when she saw it, and experts co

3、nfirmed that a puma will not attack a human being unless it is cornered. The search proved difficult, for the puma was often observed at one place in the morning and at another place twenty miles away in the evening. Wherever it went, it left behind it a trail of dead deer and small animals like rab

4、bits. Paw prints were seen in a number of places and puma fur was found clinging to bushes. Several people complained of cat-like noises at night and a businessman on a fishing trip saw the puma up a tree. The experts were now fully convinced that the animal was a puma, but where had it come from? A

5、s no pumas had been reported missing from any zoo in the country, this one must have been in the possession of a private collector and somehow managed to escape. The hunt went on for several weeks, but the puma was not caught. It is disturbing to think that a dangerous wild animal is still at large

14、by people who claimed to have seen the puma were extraordinarily similar.for 表示原因,翻譯做:因為這個分句還可以再細(xì)分:句子的主干部分是:The descriptions were similargiven引導(dǎo)的部分是過去分詞作定語,修飾description而這一成分中,who引導(dǎo)的定語從句,用來修飾people2.被動語態(tài)常用于表達(dá)事實的客觀性tip: 英文的表達(dá)方式重點在于突出客觀事實,故常用被動語態(tài);而中文則善于運用動作的執(zhí)行者,常用主動式 被動語態(tài)的特殊結(jié)構(gòu):被動語態(tài)現(xiàn)在分詞e.g. puma fur wa

15、s found clinging to bushes 現(xiàn)在分詞clinging起補充說明主語的作用3,定語從句和同位語從句 一般來講, 定語從句和同位語從句緊隨在被修飾名詞后面,但為了保持句子平衡,也可把謂語動詞放到從句之前。讓我們來看兩個文中的例子: (1)Pumas are large, cat-like animals which are found in America. (2)Reports came into London Zoo that a wild puma had been spotted forty-five miles south of London. 現(xiàn)在讓我們來回顧

16、下兩種從句的區(qū)別: (1) 定語從句只是對于被修飾詞的補充說明、修飾。定語從句的引導(dǎo)詞:指人:主語 who; 賓語 who/whom; 定語 whose表達(dá)事物:that(也可指人)/ which時間狀語:when; 地點狀語:where; 原因狀語: why(2) 同位語從句則是講述被修飾名詞的內(nèi)容同位語從句的引導(dǎo)詞:名詞做主語、賓語時,關(guān)系詞用that 而不是which時間 when; 地點 wheree.g. I have no idea what has happened to him.大家學(xué)的怎么樣?我們來測試一下吧 Exercises1.choice questions(1) Wh
