Today,cancercausesoneineverysevendeathsworldwide.Buthowdoescancerstart?Andwhatisbeingdonetocombatit?Ourbodiescontaintrillionsofhighlyspecializedcells,andeachcarriesgenesresponsibleforregulatingcellgrowthanddivision.Butwhenageneticchangedisruptsthisprocess,cellsbegintogrowanddivideuncontrollably,thereby ingcancer.Teticchangesthatcausecancerusuallyhappeninthreetypesofgenes:Proto-oncogenes,whichsignalacelltogrowanddivide;TumorSuppressorGenes,whichsignalacelltostopdividing;andDNARepairGenes,whichpreserveandmaintaingeneticcodes.Changesinthesegenesleadtoabnormalcellgrowth,resultinginmassesoftissuescalledTumors.Tumorsmaybebenign,meaningthattheyremaininonearea;ormalignant,whi eansthattheyarecapableofspreading.ThroughaprocesscalledMetastasis,amalignanttumor’scellswilleventuallybreakoff,travelthroughoutthebody,andbeginformingtumorsinotherregions.Whenthishappensthecancerhas
