HowdoyouunderstandthecurriculumofEnglishmajor獲獎(jiǎng)科研報(bào)告Whenitcomestocurriculum,itcanbehardtopinpointwhatcurriculumreallyis.Frommyperspective,curriculumisatermthatdescribeseverythingthatstudentslearninschool.
Thecurriculumformajorsattractstheattentionofquiteafewpeopleforthereasonthatitisthemaincontentofthetrainingmode.Nowadays,manystudentschoosetoplacetheirfaithintechnology,science,andeconomics.EquallycrucialistheEnglishmajor.
Asisknowntoall,theEnglishmajor'sskillsetisnottiedtotechnologyormarkets.DepartmentofEnglishisaplacewherestudentsintenselydiscusswhattheylove,suchasnovels,poems,plays,paintings,films,comics,videogamesandotherartforms------alongwiththeoreticalandphilosophicalquestionstothestudyofliteratureandculture.Whenbeingaskedbythepeoplearoundme,whyamImajoringinEnglish,Idon'tknowhowtoanswerthisquestionexactly.
Afterasemesterofstudyinthecollege,IholdtheviewthatIhavetheanswertothequestionandunderstandthecurriculumofEnglishmajorsomehow.Letmetakethissemester'scourseasanexample.
FromEnglishReading,weknowhowtointerpretcomplextextsandreadwithunderstandingandinsight.Atthesametime,wedevelopperspectivesonhumankindnatureandculturalvaluesthroughAmerican,British,andotherEnglishliterature,whichliftsourtastesinEnglishaswell.Linguisticsoffersusanunderstandingofhowlanguagesfunctionstructurallyandhowtheyshapeandrespondtotheculturesaroundthem.IntroductiontoEnglishgivesusageneralunderstandingofmajorandmakesusgainthemotivationtostudy.
Althoughsomestudentsdonotknowaboutthefuture,wedoknowthatwecangoontopostgraduatestudynotonlyinEnglishbutinsuchareasaslaws,businesses,medicines,education,orotherliberaldisciplines.What'smore,wecanalsoimproveourEnglishskillsthroughtests,suchastheTEM4,TEM8,IELTSandTOEFL.Alltheteachingguidancesimulatesourinterestsandmakesuslookforwardtothefuture.EnglishPhonetics,ElementaryEnglishListeningandOralEnglishdousafavortobuildthelisteningandspeakingability,whichareessentialcomponentsofEnglishcomprehensiveabilities.
ThoughthesescoursesarethebasicsintheEnglishmajor,theyareofgreatsignificanceforusnewcomersandsparkourimmediateintellectualexcitement.What'smore,thiscategorizationofcurriculumofEnglishmajorisanessentialguaranteetoimproveourclassroomteachingefficiency.Itisdifficultformetoimaginehowinefficientourstudieswouldbeprovidedthatwedidn'thavethecarefullyselectedcurriculumbyourschool.
Thankstotherationalcurriculumdesignandstageteaching,itisfeasibleforustogetsuitablecoursesinaccordancewithourlevelsandneeds.Merelyinthisway,canweEnglishmajorsstudymoreefficientlyandimproveourabilitiestocomprehendgradually.
Exceptfortheunifiedcurriculumofschool,takingpartinsomemeaningfulactivitiesrelevanttoEnglishalsoplaysasignificantpartinourstudy.EnglishCornerisagoodplacehavingastronglanguagelearningenvironment,wherewecannotonlyfindsomepartnerspracticingoralEnglishandexchangeEnglishstudyexperience,butalsogetastageforself-presentationandself-improvement.Alltheseinteractionsmadepositivecontributionstobroadeningoursight,raisingourinterestsinEnglish,andenrichingourcolorfulamateurlives.
Anyonewhohasconcernedaboutthecurrentsituationofgraduates'jobhuntingwouldnotfailtonoticethatthelow-levelofEnglishaccountfortheirunemploymenttoagreatextent.SomeofthemhavehighdegreesingoodcollegesbuttheystillfeeldifficulttofindanidealjobasaconsequenceoftheirinferiorEnglishability.ThereareanumberofstudentswhohadgottheirCET-6licensebeforetheirjobhunting,buttheystillhavenotenoughqualificationtoaccepttheoffer.Why?Forthecausethatsomeofthemjustgotalicense,buttheirrealabilityofEnglishwasnothigh.Tonameonlyafew,someofthempasstheexambuttheiroralEnglishisnotqualifiedforthejobs.Therefore,alicenseisnotenoughtocertificateourreallevelofEnglish.
AsEnglishmajors,ourdegreesinEnglishwillmakeusvaluabletoemployersandusefultotheworld.Withtherealabilitystayingwithus,nomatterhowlowtheemploymentrate,westillhaveconfidencetogetagoodjob.Thepresentchallengesleadquiteafewpeopletoplacetheirfaithintechnology,science,andeconomics.Equallyimportantistheabilitytoarticulatevaluesandalternatives,topersuadeotherstoshareacommonvision.Forexample,majortechcompanies,includingGoogle,activelypursueEnglishmajorsandothersfromthehumanitieswhocannotonlyillustratehowtechnologyworksbutalsowhatitmeans.
Corporationsandgovernmentsincreasinglyask:howdowecommunicatebetterwiththeglobalspreadofEnglish?AsanEnglishmajor,IholdtheviewthatI'llbeabletotellthem.Itiswidelyrecognizedthatonlyourdegreesarenotenoughtodistinguishusfromthecrowdedfieldofcandidates.Thoughcollegedegrees,professionalcertificatesandexperiencehelpusmeettheminimumcriteriatoapply,oncewegetthechancetointerview,communication,selfmanagementandbehavioralskillscombinedwithourpresenceiswhatwilldistinguishusfromthecompetition.
Ourlevelofprofessionalismwillrelatedirectlytothedegreetowhichwewillriseabovethecrowd.Throughthewidevarietyofliterary-criticalapproachesweencounterinclasses,Englishmajorscultivatetheanalyticalcapacitiesthatwillcontinuetoserveusinourpersonalandprofessionalliveslongaftergraduation.Itsvalueneverdepreciates,andliesbeyondprice.
