AIf theres one thing the British are good at, its watching telly. You may think the Americans would beat us at that, but weve taken and turned it into an art form. Like most people, our favorite TV subject is ourselves, which has led to a number of shows aiming to be as British as possible. So if you want to learn how to be British, sit down to a few episodes of these distinctly British shows.DOCTOR WHOPolitical aside, Doctor Who owes its long television life not only to a brilliant central character, terrifying alien foes and intelligent scriptwriting, but also to a distinctly British way of doing things. If the Earth is the Doctors favorite planet, its clear that Britain is his favorite country.SHERLOCKThe global popularity of the modernized Sherlock Holmes series has proven yet again that no amount of big blockbuster allgunsblazing cop shows can compete with the reserved and sharp detective work of one of Britains most wellloved characters. Benedict Cumberbatch has been rightly lauded for his depiction of the fastthinking private eye, which has proven again we British are good at more than drinking tea.BLACKADDERSimilar to the Pythons, the brilliance of Blackadder is set in its genius application of witty and classically British humor. From the dulcet tones of lead man Rowan Atkinson to the clumsy sidekick Tony Robinson, theres no better show for telling what makes the British British and having a good laugh at it, including an entire season of pointing fun at the French, one of the most British activities.FRIENDSI know what youre thinkingFriends is an American show, about Americans living in America! How can it be distinctly British? But perhaps youre not aware that, apart from Season 1, Friends is written entirely by British writers, and if you watch the first season in comparison to the others, the difference really shows. British sense of humor cant be replicated artificially. Its a fine art by a natural hand. As an English student, I figureFriends is, and although they speak in American accents, a British! 1If you hunger to laugh, _ is the best choice.ASherlockBBlackadderCFriendsDDoctor Who 2What is stressed by the text?AThe British are crazy about teadrinking.BFriends is actually made by the British.CThe British are always finding faults with the French.DThe British are good at producing and watching telly. 根據(jù)文章第一段第一二句“If theres one thing the British are good at, its watching telly.but weve taken and turned it into an art form. ”可知,文章強調(diào)英國人擅長觀看并制作電視劇。故選D項。3The main purpose of the text is to _.Achallenge the American show loversBadvertise the British most loved showsCprovide some information about the BritishDintroduce the techniques of the British shows答案:C 推理判斷題。根據(jù)文章第一段最后一句“So if you want to learn how to be British, sit down to . Mrs. Brown lives by herself in a park near Clovis. She said that Clyde, her 7yearold cat, didnt come home for dinner more than a month ago. The next morning he didnt appear for breakfast, either. After Clyde missed an extraspecial lunch, she called the police. When the policeman asked her to describe Clyde, she told him that Clyde had beautiful green eyes, had all his teeth but was missing half of his left ear, and was seven years old and completely white.“Is Clyde your child or your pet?” the officer asked. “Well, hes my cat.” Mrs. Brown replied. “Lady, you should report missing PERSONS, not missing CATS!” said the annoyed policeman. “You can ask around your neighborhood or put up flyers.” Mrs. Brown figured that a billboard would work a lot better than an 811 piece of paper on a telephone pole. There was an empty billboard at the end of her street just off the highway, with a phone number on it.She called that number, and they told her they could put up a picture of Clyde on the billboard for all to see. They told her it would cost only ¥3 000 a month. So she took most of the money out of her savings account and rented the billboard for a month. The month has passed, but Clyde has not appeared.Because she has almost no money in savings, Mrs. Brown called the local newspaper to see if anyone could help her rent the billboard for just one more month. She is waiting but, so far, no one has stepped forward.文章大意:本文是一篇新聞報道。一個老太太的寵物貓丟失一個多月了,她就此請求大家給予幫助。1The underlined word “flyers” in the second paragraph probably means _.Aposters BpilotsCbillboards Dnewspapers答案:A詞義猜測題。警察建議Mrs. Brown “put up flyers”,再根據(jù)文章第二段倒數(shù)第二句“Mrs. Brown figured that a billboard would work a lot better than an 811 piece of paper on a telephone pole.”可推知,flyer指的是“an 811 piece of paper on a telephone pole”,故答案A海報,符合文義。2Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?AThe police officer thought that Clyde was Mrs. Browns child.BMrs. Brown put up an 811 piece of paper on a telephone pole.CClyde had kept Mrs. Brown company for seven years in total.DSomeone rented the billboard for Mrs. Brown for one month.答案:A細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)文章第二段第三句“Lady, you should report missing PERSONS, not missing CATS! said the annoyed policeman”可知,答案A符合文義。should此處表示驚訝。3It can be inferred from the passage that _.Athe billboard off the highway costs $ 3 000 a monthBthe neighbors helped Mrs. Brown to put up flyersCMrs. Brown doesnt give up the hope of finding ClydeDClyde only had half of his left ear but had all his teeth答案:C推理判斷題。根據(jù)文章第一段第一句“The owner of a missing cat is asking for help.”和對文章最后兩段的整體理解可以推斷出,Mrs. Brown并沒有放棄尋找寵物貓,故答案C符合文義。4What is probably the best title for the passage?AA Nearby BillboardBClyde and Mrs. BrownCA Missing CatDPersons or Cats答案:C標(biāo)題概括題。根據(jù)文章第一段第一句“The owner of a missing cat is asking for help.”的開篇點題和對全文的整體理解可知,本文主要講的是一個老太太尋找一只丟失的貓的相關(guān)信息,故答案C符合文義。D(2017遼寧沈陽二模)Ophelia and the Marvelous Boy by Karen FoxleeType:FantasyWhen Ophelia moves to a strange city where it never stops snowing, she discovers a boy locked away for 75 years in a museum. She must help the boy and stop the Snow Queen from freezing the world.Along the way,Ophelia learns how to believe in things she cannot see.Targeted readers:People who like fairy tales would enjoy this book.A Hundred Horses by Sarah LeanType:MysteryThe wooden horse Nell brings along during her visits to Aunt and cousins is stolen by a girl named Angel. As Nell finds out Angels true identity,a bond grows between them and a group of 99 horses. The word is that the 100th horse is magical. But where is it?Nell doesnt know, but Angel might know.Targeted readers:Kids who like animals and nature will be sure to find this book exciting. How to Catch a Bogle by Catherine JinksType:FantasyBirdie is an orphan who is good at trapping monsters with her singing voice. She is the only goblin(妖精)hunter in the world. When kids go missing, its up to her to figure out why.Targeted readers:Anyone who is looking for monsters will take great pleasure in this book.I Even Funnier:A Middle School Story by James Patterson and Chris GrabensteinType:FictionAfter a car accident Jamie loses his family,so he moves in with his aunt, uncle and his cousin Stevie, whose basic aim is to trick Jamie. But Jamie keeps having a positive attitude and running after his goals. He has been recently honored the Funniest Kid Comic of New York State.Targeted readers:This book would be great for anyone who is fond of humorous books.1.Which writer tells a story about a girl saving the world?A.Karen Foxlee.B.Sarah Lean.C.Catherine Jinks.D.James Patterson and Chris Grabenstein.2.Nature lovers may take interest in .A.Ophelia and the Marvelous BoyB.A Hundred HorsesC.How to Catch a BogleD.I Even Funnier:A Middle School Story3.Who goes through life challenges without losing heart?A.Ophelia.B.Nell.C.Birdie.D.Jamie.4.In which section of a newspaper can we probably find this passage?A.Fashion.B.Literature.C.Business.D.Local news.1.A細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)文中所描述的第一本書Ophelia and the Marvelous Boy中,“She must help the boy before the Snow Queen freezes the world.”,可知Ophelia在冰雪女王冰封整個世界之前必須要救這個男孩,所以O(shè)phelia是拯救世界的那個女孩,故選A項。2.B細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)文中所描述的第二本書是圍繞馬展開的故事,且根據(jù)“Kids who like animals and nature will be sure to find this book exciting.”可知這本書對于喜歡動物和自然的孩子們很有吸引力,故選B項。3.D推理判斷題。根據(jù)文中所描述的第四本書,“After a car accident Jamie loses his family,so he moves in with his aunt, uncle and his cousin Stevie, whose basic aim is to trick Jamie. But Jamie keeps having a positive attitude and running after his goals.” EChinese New Year is approaching and preparations are underway around the world.
