1、Illustrations on Teaching First Period of Unit 1 Whats he likeLadies and gentlemen, good morning. Im contestant No. _. Its my pleasure to be here to share my teaching designs and ideas with you. Today my topic is Grade 5, Unit 1, Whats he like? A Lets try and lets talk. Im going to analyze the lesso

2、n in 6 parts. Lets begin with Part 1 Analysis of Teaching Material. First, Teaching Content Analysis. In this lesson, Ss will learn to talk about describe teachers appearance and characters. The Ss are supposed to learn to make a simple description by using key words and expressions. This lesson is

3、not only a First period of Unit 1, but also provides an extension practice for training Ss abilities of speaking and communication.Next,Teaching aims:The first one is knowledge aims: Ss will learn several words: friendly, old, young, funny, quiet, and different expressions: Who is Mr. XX? Is he XX?.

4、 And they should learn to describe different appearances and characters.Next ability aims: In this lesson, the students will do a lot of speaking practice. And they should try to communicate with others. Thats to say, training Ss abilities of speaking and communication is far more important in this

5、lesson.As for the aims of Moral education, I will encourage my Ss to be brave to open their mouths to communicate with others, to gain confidence in learning English and to get along well with different people, and never judge a person just by his appearance.The important point in this lesson is to

6、describe peoples look and personality by using the target language. The difficult point is to express differently and inventively with their creation and imagination.Ok. Thats all for Part 1. Lets come to Part 2, Analysis of Students.As a teacher, I deeply know that, if I want to teach my students w

7、ell, I must know them well first. Ss in grade 5 have learnt primary English for 2 years, but they are still beginners. They are full of curiosity and learning interest. While on the other hand, they are also afraid of making mistakes and hope to get affirmation. However, there are few new words in t

8、his lesson, so they will feel at ease to learn it, and get confidence to use the target language.Part 3, Analysis of Teaching Methods. I will adopt Task-based Teaching Methods which can help the Ss learn Sth., make conversations step by step and build their language accuracy. In order to provide Ss

9、with enough opportunities to practice speaking and keep their enthusiasm, multimedia will be adopted too. It can help to create a real situation with its pictures and sound.As for Ss learning strategies, I prefer to cultivate their abilities of communication, cooperation, self-evaluation and self-ad

10、justing. They should take an active part in activities to get the sense of achievement.Next,I will mainly talk about my Teaching procedures. Ill divide my teaching procedures into 5 steps. Lets begin with Step 1. Preparation.At the beginning of the class, I will greet Ss as usual and encourage them

11、to communicate with me freely. Im trying to set up a closer relationship between my Ss and me. Then I will chant with them. This chant can help Ss review the target language in an interesting way. Next is a brain-storm. I will show a picture of Jay Zhou on the screen, and ask “Do you know him? What

12、does he do? Whats he like?.” Ss can may be interested in the star, they can answer the Questions easily. This activity can also improve their interests and arouse their imagination and creation. Lets go with Step 2 presentationFirst, finish “Lets try” to lead in to the topic of “talking about our te

13、acher.” Then listen to the dialogue between Wu Yifan and Oliver. After the presentation, I design series of activities, such as listening, imitating, reading, role-playing the conversations. The activities are designed from easy to difficult, from basic skills to communicative competences. They are

14、helpful in improving Ss abilities. Then Ill present this dialogue into 3 steps: First, let Ss practice the conversations to grasp the key points. Second, replay the MP3 twice for Ss to imitate the native accent. Explain the text to make it easy for them to understand the meanings. Third, Ill offer r

15、eading tasks for them to get a thorough understanding of the dialogue. Fourth, Ask Ss to work in Halves, in pairs, in groups to role play the conversation. During the activities, they may exchange their roles and take substitution practice. Step 3 practiceI will divide this step into three layers of

16、 tasks: less opened activities, more opened activities and fully opened activities. This step-by-step progression allows Ss to build accuracy and gain confidence in learning new language.Task 1: Less opened activities. After presenting the dialogue, Ill firstly let Ss listen to the dialogue and ask

17、them to finish the activity: Lets try. This task is for them to listen for the gist and get the general conception of the context.Task 2: More opened activities. First, let them read the dialogue, try to imitate the stress and intonation, its also a process of language internalization. I think such

18、a reading activity can reinforce their language sense. Then ask them to act out the dialogue, it can help the Ss to use the target language. Task 3: fully opened activities: Ill create a similar situation for Ss to conversate by using the target language. The screen shows scenes for Ss to make conve

19、rsations and act them out. Ill ask Ss to do pair work freely. This none-controlled activity can get Ss out of the created situation to their real life. Step 4 productionFirst let them demonstrate the conversations theyve made in pair work. And evaluate their performances according to the use of targ

20、et language, the language accuracy and fluency, Ss participation and their enthusiasm. This activity can give Ss a chance to show what they have learnt and how they benefit from this lesson.Step 5 progressIll design a topic for Ss to talk about: My favorite Chinese/.teacher. Ill present a situation

21、on the screen for Ss to ask and say. Ss are asked to work in groups. I will give the students some tips to help them to report. This activity can help Ss apply the target language into real life. Thats the final purpose of this lesson. Competitions between groups can stimulate their further interest in learning English.As for homework, Ill firstly let Ss practi
