HenryStanleyisperhapsbestknownforhisexpeditionintoAfricatofindDr.DavidLivingstone,butthat’snottheonlyrescuemissionheundertook.InDecember1886,StanleysetoffintoAfricaonwhatwouldbehislastjourney:anattempttofindandbringhomeaGermanzoologistnamedEduardSchnitzer.Schnitzerhadtakenthename“EminPasha,”inanattempttobebetterreceivedbythosehewaslivingamong.Pashawascatalogingahostofrecently-discoveredplantandanimallifeformswhenfightingbrokeoutintheSudan.PashawithdrewtoEquatoria,ataboutthesametimetheEminPashaReliefCommitteewasformed.InadditiontothechiefgoalofbringingPashahome,StanleywasalsounderordersfromtheKingofBelgiumtoopenupsomenewtraderoutesinthearea.
