WordOrderinaSubordinateClause從句的順序

在寫英語復合句時,除了需要注意照應主句與從句的時態(tài)、人稱、連接詞語等等之外,還應特別致意從句部分的語序。

英語從句經(jīng)常用疑問詞引導,如what,who等,但與疑問詞引導的簡單問句不同。從句不使用疑問句語序,而使用陳述句語序,即按主語在前、謂語在后的順序排列。還應注意,因為從句不使用疑問倒裝結(jié)構(gòu),所以一般現(xiàn)在時和一般過去時不再用do,does,did等助動詞幫助構(gòu)成從句結(jié)構(gòu)。

1.常用來引導從句的疑問詞有what,when,where,who,whether,how等,這些疑問詞一般仍保留原有的疑問含義。

ShewantedtoknowwhenmybrotherhadvisitedParis.

她想知道我哥哥什么時候游覽過巴黎。

Couldyoupleasetellmewherewearegoing.

你能告訴我我們到哪里去嗎?

Howheplaysthetrickisasecret.

他怎么變這個戲法是個秘密。

2.Whether可以引導主語從句,if不能引導主語從句,但是兩者都能引導賓語從句。引導賓語從句時,兩者都表示“是否”的意思,只是if后面不能加ornot。1)主語從句

Whetherhewillacceptthejobisdifficulttosay.(對)

Ifhewillacceptthejobisdifficulttosay.(錯)

他是否接受這項工作還很難說。

2)賓語從句

Theywonderedwhether/ifwewouldliketojointhem.

他們想知道我們是否愿意加入他們。

Couldyoupleasetellmewhetherornotwearegoingthere,too?

請告訴我是否我們也要去那里?

3.疑問句一般可以用來引導主語從句、賓語從句及表語從句。寫作中要特別注意這些從句的語序。

1)主語從句的語序

Whetherhecomesornotmatterslittletome.

他來不來與我沒什么相干。

Howyoucangetsuchanexperienceisakeypoint.

你怎樣才能得到這種體驗是個關(guān)鍵。

2)賓語從句的語序

Idon’tunderstandwhyhedidn’tacceptourinvitation.

我不明白他為什么不接受我們的邀請。

3)表語從句的語序

Thefactturnsouttobewhatheneverexpected.

事實是他始料不及的。

4.when,where等若用來引導狀語從句或定語從句,它們不再是疑問詞,也不具有疑問含義,因此他們的語序亦應為陳述句語序。

1)狀語從句的語序

WhenshevisitedthefamousmuseuminParis,shemetmybrother.

她在巴黎參觀哪個著名的博物館時遇見了我哥哥。

Couldyoustayforawhilewhereyouarenow?

你們能在現(xiàn)在的地方留一會兒嗎?

2)定語從句的語序

ShestillremembersthedaywhenshemetmybrotherinParis.

她還記得在巴黎遇見我哥哥的那一天。
